Default Tint ticket... (long)

Heading towards Overland Park monday, just past 199th street. I was going with the traffic, NOT speeding - I met a cop.. didn't think to much about it since I wasn't speeding - about 5 minutes later, I look in my rear view mirror and see flashing lights.. my first thought was I better get outta the way, maybe there's an accident up ahead.. WRONG he pulls behind me, get's out & informs me he needs to check my tint on my windows..

He asked if I knew what was on there... "Um.. 35% I think" He gets his little window tint checker out, & the numbers start climbing... then it stops at 12 "oh crap" I'm thinking to myself this can't be good..

"Miss, the legal tint in Kansas is 35% this is NOT LEGAL - license & insurance papers please" ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

5 minutes later he comes back with my ticket, I have to appear in court in may. I called the number on the ticket, it might be a possibility I won't have to go. The fine is $76

NEVER have I been messed with about the tint on my car... and it's been on there over 2 years. Oh well, live & learn.. I'll roll them down from now on I guess.

The rest of the week went good in Chicago thou..

I know my day is coming. I have 20% all around.

I have heard here in VA, they can actually make you remove the tint right there on the spot

I do try to avoid being stopped next to a cop like at a stop light and if I am, I put the windows down real quick

I know sooner or later, I will be telling this same story as you

First time I have ever heard of someone getting pulled over for tint. Most people get a tint violation in addition to another driving infraction.

Janelle that sucks....

Been there done that.... Was pulled over by a local on the tint on my windows on my truck. All I had to do is show them the truck with no tint on it and I had no fine. Put tint on my Vette and so far so good after a year. maybe I should have not said that...

I got it twice in two weeks last year, after 20 years of no tint tickets...

Just paid them...

Peace

How could you remove tint on the spot? That stuff is very difficult to remove.

I know everybody loves the dark tint for the privacy and it looks cool (I think it looks cool too). But to a LEO - he has no idea what kind of evil is lurking behind the tint, and if the evil is cradling a pistol on it's lap. That's why they have the laws really - to protect the LEO's when they make a traffic stop.

I think if you show evidence that you have had the tint removed and replaced with the legal density, the case will get tossed in court. Either way - whether you pay the fine or change the tint, you pay.

I don't think it's a moving violation though (I have no idea about laws in Kansas), it's an equipment violation, at least it is in Arizona and Illinois (the two states that I have lived in....)

As soon as that starts happening, we know the country has gone to communism.

Dang Janelle.... Trouble just seems to find you, huh???

I'm more than a bit surprised that he was going the other way and turned around just to get you for tint... Dang...

Good to hear the trip to Chicago was good!!

Hang in there lady... If you go see Oak, he's getting into the tinting business these days... you know that he works really, really cheaply!!

Ive had 5% (3% is the darkest you can get but its hard to find) on all the cars I have owned and have never been pulled over for it (knock on wood), each time I have gotten pulled over I roll down all the windows so the cop has full view. I think 15% is the darkest limit here

I got one in Virginia in my suburban. Moved from Oklahoma where it was legal. A 70 yr old a hole cop wouldn't even give me a warning for it. Didn't know different sates have different amounts to be legal

Each state has it's own inspection regs. Sorry to hear about the ticket, but as someone above indicated, the LEOs get shot so often, that the regs are typically to protect them.

I admit, my Trans Am has tint (purchased that way). Someday, I need to find out the amt of tint.

I think by the time you roll down the window, Leo already has you tagged for this ticket. I got picked out of traffic a couple years ago with another car, not the vette, just for the window thing. It's like a lot of these laws, penalize the good guy who would not be a threat to the law and the bad guys don't give a rip and will be trouble either way. My point is if you roll down your window, which i would always do, the officer has a free view. As far as i know you can have darker tint in back so someone could be there that is trouble too. If you don't roll down your window that should be warning enough to Leo. Stupid law, just like front plates.

Roll down your window will make no difference on this ticket.

[QUOTE=C5-GIRL;1559536834] The fine is $76

Hmmm...? Well, on the bright side, according to the math, its only costing you $3 per month to drive around with nice tint. Ya can't find anything nowadays for 3bucks a month.

The problem with the law from a Leo protection angle, is that it's not really realistic. Most states allow dark limo tint on the very back window, and the back passenger windows.

Now...where do cops approach a vehicle?
From the back! They can't see in the vehicle until it's too late anyways.

What does make sense for tint restrictions is for safety reasons in regards to night-time visibility.
