only performance mod is a blackwing intake. all the other mods are cosmetic (drilled/slotted rotors, exposed headlights, etc..)
again, I have no problem modding the C5. I've contemplated going FI on it many times. But in the end, if I do that then I'm in the C5 for the long haul.. And to make up for all its shortcomings - suspension, seats, power... I'm looking at 10-15k. That's more than I really want to spend on modding it just to get it to the point where I'm happy with it lol
Well no matter what. If you're thinking about trading it in for a C6 you're going to save money by modding your C5. Plus you'll be able to make it your own. It'll be faster and have more reliable parts because you'll put everything on it by your prefrence and over all probably be a lot happier.
Just think about the price difference between selling your C5 , buying a C6 and how much you're going to spend opposed to how much you'll invest for modifications.
I will admit though. There is a point of no return when it comes to fixing up a car and modding it. Sometimes cars just have to much miles , to many things wrong , and it's just to difficult to mod it and make it "pretty". I've been there and done that. Than it's time to get another car.
Just something for you to consider, trade-in value. I ran Mitsu's for a few years, liked them, but when it came time to trade, talk about not having anything. They are a decent car that gets a bad rap and therefore, aren't worth hardly anything come time for a new one.
But get what you like and enjoy it! I have to say this. There is nothing like the power and feel of a Corvette!
I have to disagree with this point, I dont see the evo' losing that much value as they are in pretty high demand, espeically a IX MR,.. also once the X comes out they will no longer be running the 4G63 motor..so it will be interesting to see how the tuning community reacts depending on what they replace it with....
Get rid of your vette. Clearly you think everything about it sucks. I did a 60-110mph pull against a brand spanking new EVO. (On the track ) I let him go first. Once I saw him launch, I floored it. In that short amount of time, I put at least two full car lengths between us, and I was leaving. On the road course, I have walked away from one that was on way better tires than me and looked much more track ready than me. My car is an '01 Z06 with LTs. I would suggest a Z06, but it sounds like you want a C6, so get one.
What would it take to have the c5 handle like the evo? let's start there.
Rip out the old f45 suspension (the shocks are shot anyway)
go Z06? Coilovers?
Seats:
Get some Corbeau A4s?
Performance:
Go FI? Toss a supercharger on it and an RPM transmission to handle the power? I figure for any REAL power additions, the tranny will have to get fixed up. H/C combo could work, but to get to power numbers that would make me happy I'd probably have to give up too much drivability.
Is there anything I can do about the heavy steering feel?
Evoultions are great cars. But honestly the turbo just makes an illusion of it being faster. Boost does feel neat. But in all reality. Your cars makes more horsepower , torque , and weighs less. So it's a bit impossible for it to be faster. Also when it all boils down Evo's are just rally cars. They will never compare to the luxury of a corvette.
Anyways,
AWD < RWD anyday. I understand that all wheel drive vehicles are nice and you can launch well. I'd just take a rear wheel drive car anytime of the day. Much more fun , much more potentional , and less things to break haha.
Just mod your C5 man! You'll fall in love with it all over again! thats what always happens to me.
Get some bilstzines, lower it and add a few things under the hood, and make it feels faster, boost feels neat on a corvette too

shocks/sways/tires should help the handling (track guys can chime in on this one)... as for performace... it depends where you want to go with the car.. a H/C vette is no joke and will walk plenty of cars.. same with any sort of F/I.....just depends how much power you are looking for
The thing is, if I mod the vette more than I already have, then I am stuck with a C5 til its paid off. if I dont mod it any more, I should be able to sell it for enough to pay it off, and then I can get a C6 (which I like more) or the new Camaro when it comes out (which I also like more)
You've already made up your mind. You like the EVO, C6 and new Camaro, more than the C5. Why did you even bother to initiate this thread? Sell the C5 and move on.

My wife recently bought a brand new 2006 Mitubishi Evo IX MR
It is a stick - she cant drive stick. So, I've been driving the Evo and she's been driving my Corvette.
Today, I got to have my car back (for the day at least).
It SUCKED.
The suspension is crappy. The steering feels heavy. The seats are terrible. It's even slower than her car!
I really dont know what to do here. I've been thinking about how much I'd like a C6, or the new Camaro when it comes out... but will that satisfy me? Is it worth trying to build up the C5, or will it just never be able to compete?
All I know is that I am suddenly unhappy with a car I've always loved, and it is not a good thing.

Sounds like your wife likes the Vette better than the EVO...Sell the Vette quick before she gets tired of seeing a EVO in the driveway and gets rid of you. <grin>

I believe that you have been duped by your wife. I'm sure the plan, from the beginning, was to get your vette away from you by enticing you with the Evo. Looks like it's working.
The vette is America's Sports Car. It's designed to be fast on a road course and maneuver well on winding roads. If your looking for straight line acceleration then supercharge it and hold on!
Why did your wife buy a car she doesn't know how to drive? I bought an automatic Vette b/c my wife couldn't drive a manual.
Maybe your wife knew what she was doing.
I used to drive a DSM back in the day, and have followed the Evo pretty closely ever since they came out. I've had a few chances to pick one up, but something always stops me. As you can see, I chose the Z06.
They are great cars, but they still don't hold a candle to the Vette overall. If you look at them cross-eyed, they break. Not to mention you need to run meth/alcohol in order to run any substancial boost.
What year is your C5? Or when's the last time you changed the shocks or suspension settings? I'm guessing never. May be time to update the C5 a little before comparing it to a brand new car.
