Default I have a serious problem

My wife recently bought a brand new 2006 Mitubishi Evo IX MR
It is a stick - she cant drive stick. So, I've been driving the Evo and she's been driving my Corvette.

Today, I got to have my car back (for the day at least).
It SUCKED.
The suspension is crappy. The steering feels heavy. The seats are terrible. It's even slower than her car!

I really dont know what to do here. I've been thinking about how much I'd like a C6, or the new Camaro when it comes out... but will that satisfy me? Is it worth trying to build up the C5, or will it just never be able to compete?

All I know is that I am suddenly unhappy with a car I've always loved, and it is not a good thing.

Evoultions are great cars. But honestly the turbo just makes an illusion of it being faster. Boost does feel neat. But in all reality. Your cars makes more horsepower , torque , and weighs less. So it's a bit impossible for it to be faster. Also when it all boils down Evo's are just rally cars. They will never compare to the luxury of a corvette.

Anyways,

AWD < RWD anyday. I understand that all wheel drive vehicles are nice and you can launch well. I'd just take a rear wheel drive car anytime of the day. Much more fun , much more potentional , and less things to break haha.

Just mod your C5 man! You'll fall in love with it all over again! thats what always happens to me.

now take it easy, sit down relax. for about $8,000.00 you can make that c5 a rocket that you'll love, new c6 $50,000.00.

actually, her car weighs the same. And yes, it really IS faster, 0-60 and 1/4 mile. I assume due to the gearing.

The thing is, if I mod the vette more than I already have, then I am stuck with a C5 til its paid off. if I dont mod it any more, I should be able to sell it for enough to pay it off, and then I can get a C6 (which I like more) or the new Camaro when it comes out (which I also like more)

Test drive an 01-04 C5 w/Z51 or a C6 w/Z51, and then the others you may be interested in besides a concept car. Choose the one that makes you happy. I wouldn't invest more money into something your not happy with as you will probably trade it or sell it and will not get that return back.

If you sell the C5 and get the C6 your wife will still be driving your vette. Give her the C5 and trade in the EVO.

lol we're working on that - she drove the Evo today, trying to get a handle on it. It's crazy - she is really good at driving a manual, she just gets flustered whenever someone pulls up close behind her, and she panics and everything goes downhill from there

evos are great cars, stock for stock they dont beat C5's though, there are a bunch in my area (AMS is right up the block) and some of my freinds have them.I have run and beaten stock ones... but no one keeps an evo stock anyway.. now go buy a boost controller, turbo back exhaust and get a tune and you are well into the 12's.. they are super mod friendly cars, I thought about getting one before getting the vette, but I wasnt a huge fan of the looks... and I would not give up my vette for one

Well as far as I've seen they run pretty much the same quarter mile. i just looked it up and they do weigh the same i thought they weighed 3,200 pounds for some reason.

If you're into boost than thats cool. But theres nothing like natural aspiration. Instant torque and go is the best.

What have you already done to your C5?

One big thing also is you said it was an automatic. HUGE difference between an automatic and manual. It's personal prefrence but a lot of it seems to be you're having fun driving a manual and stock for stock manuals are faster. Why don't you try test driving a M6 corvette? Or maybe add a torque converter to your automatic corvette.

lol well you'll notice, I'm not listing an Evo as a car to replace my C5 with. I love the car, but I dont want to give up the V8

We did have a drag race (on a track, dont worry) between my friend (a racecar driver) in my C5, and me in the Evo. Despite launching horribly, I still beat the vette easily.

When you think of a true american car icon what do most people think? CORVETTE If your wife can't drive a stick why did she buy it? I'll tell you why, so she could get her hands on your vette. I really got to give up to your wife, she sounds like a smart women.

only performance mod is a blackwing intake. all the other mods are cosmetic (drilled/slotted rotors, exposed headlights, etc..)

again, I have no problem modding the C5. I've contemplated going FI on it many times. But in the end, if I do that then I'm in the C5 for the long haul.. And to make up for all its shortcomings - suspension, seats, power... I'm looking at 10-15k. That's more than I really want to spend on modding it just to get it to the point where I'm happy with it lol

Just something for you to consider, trade-in value. I ran Mitsu's for a few years, liked them, but when it came time to trade, talk about not having anything. They are a decent car that gets a bad rap and therefore, aren't worth hardly anything come time for a new one.

But get what you like and enjoy it! I have to say this. There is nothing like the power and feel of a Corvette!

Are you in the EVO when she is driving. My wife got more confident with a stick by not having me in the car to comment on her driving abilities. The clutch even lasted until we sold the car.

interesting, anything can happen on the track, but if you bodged the launch I cant see how you beat him easily but thats cool, like i said they are quick cars especially after BC/Tb/tune... are you auto or stick, I have an auto w/ 3:15's and have got them stock... but good luck with whatever you choose to do mod C5/ get C6 etc

Yeah, you have a serious problem, but it is not that your car is slow. Make her drive the car that she bought.

Now, back to your car. I say mod it like cedge says. Best thing that I ever did to my C5. Sure, I'll never get the money back out of it when/if I ever sell it, but what car do you get your "investment" back. Certainly not a new C6!!

I have done heads/cam and rear end gear change, plus several other mods - all to the tune of over $12,000, but I would have done it any different.
I now have 425 RWHp and it will run a 11.8 sec. @122 MPH. I would put that up againest the EVO anyday.

Besides, It's a Corvette. What else needs to be said.

Wow, talk about hostility.

I DO have a corvette. I am a huge corvette fan. I was simply expressing my displeasure after driving them back-to-back. In fact, my main consideration for dealing with the problem is getting a NEW corvette, so I really dont understand your problem.
