I have only gotten two speeding tickets ever but pay the extra $150 for the lawyer and they never go on your record and you dont have to mess with court.
Its typically just handled via the mail so all you have to do is send the ticket, a form they provide, and a check.
Some states will actually revoke your drivers license for unpaid tickets in another state. You won't even know until you get pulled over and the officer comes back and tells you that you are driving on a suspended.

If you live close to the state line, they may very well haul you over there and turn you over to the Mass State Police if there's an outstanding warrant ! for failure to appear. Ya know sometimes them coppers do talk to each other !!!
Back in 2003 I got a ticket in upstate NY, I was doing about 110 in a minivan To top it off it was a female police officer, she gave me a ticket for something like 93mph in a 65mph zone
I looked at the ticket, and I don't' even think it had a dollar amount on it, it said I should go to court, and since I didn't live anywhere close to upstate NY (I was in school in NJ) and my license was from Ontario where I'm originally from, I just decided to ignore it
Nothing ever happened to me. I have since moved to Massachusetts and I have a Massachusetts license. The ticket didn't show up when I was going to get my Mass license either. I'm still pretty careful whenever I'm driving through NY state though
From: Marlton. Increasing performance one speeding ticket at a time! NJ

Yes, if they contacted your state about the unpaid fine, you definately can get your license suspended.
Here in Texas we have what is called the Compact State Agreement with just about the entire US of A. If you get a ticket and live in another state that is a part of that agreement a warrant will be issued by the state you recieved the ticket in and sent to your state. Here we don't go to your residence but if you get stopped and we run you through NCIC that warrant will pop up and we have no choice but to arrest.
You'll get greetings in the mail in the form of a Bench Warrant issued for your arrest. If stopped in the same state again, you may get a free trip to the Gray Bar Hotel. I would doubt they would extradite your buns from one state to another unless there were numerous tickets outstanding.
Your own state may refuse to renew your license once it is due for renewal-
just my .02
It still doesn't answer the question - is there a statute of limitations on a ticket? . Ie: you get a ticket in Wash state and live in Florida how long before the Wash state ticket is forgotten about 1 yr 5yr 20 yrs?
This is the day of the internet. Why take the chance of something serious coming out of a speeding ticket. You got caught! How many times have you exceeded the limit and not gotten caught? Pay the ticket and consider yourself lucky.
