Not on purpose, but it does happen. I just know that it will take a little extra time to clean it up. Best case scenario is rain all the way home and then hose it off really good before putting in garage, and by the way your neighbors won't think you have issues
I need your opinions/advice guys, I bought a 2000 c5 as Ive mentioned in a few previous posts, anyways its clean enough to eat off of inside and out, I dont think it has seen rain yet as its so clean underneath. It only has >12k miles on it. How many of you guys drive in the rain? I havent had it out in the rain yet and avoid it at all costs. Its not a DD. WHat are your opinions on this?? Am I just being too ****? Is it a mess if underneath if it goes thru a rood rain while driving??
Actually, mine is not a daily driver either. I am not so much afraid of the rain as the hail we get in these parts, especially this time of year. Actually, after driving in the rain, I simply towel it off if it is not muddy.
While driving home from shopping yesterday it was raining(Oregon go figure) I spot a red c5 Z06 and point it out to my wife. Her first words were he's driving it in the rain -he should be hung and then shot. Thats why I love her. I have 5 cars (2 Vetts) so I can pick and choose which one to drive depending on the weather. If I happen to be out in one of the Vetts and it starts raining no big deal. When I get home I just jack it up and pull all the wheels and clean the entire under carriage and wheel wells with a tooth brush and simple green and 14 hours later good as new
Reasons:
1. Washed it and do not feel like having to spend time washing it again.
2. Paint does not get water stain marks. Too time consuming to rub out.
3. Without driving in bad weather I reduce the chances of someone else spinning out and hitting me.
4. I can afford not to.
5. Rain and snow gets everywhere and starts to affect areas you cannot see.
6. Without driving in bad weather prolongs replacement of parts which can rust... not much on a Corvette but still.
7. I do not treat my car like a garage queen but I do value the reward of owning one and do not care to have it look dirty all the time.
24/7
only time I might consider leaving it in the garage is when we get an ice storm. Otherwise it's on the road.
Drive um - Beat um - Fix um - its a pleasure you can't take with you!
Mine is not a DD,, when it rains , it stays in the garage. Some people say it's ****,, but I'm the one that has to clean it.. Yes I know it is not made of sugar. But it gives me a chance to drive my other cars,, If I'm away on vacation with it and it rains,,, well it has to be driven, no choice there.
We drive our car in the rain not on purpose but, if it rains big deal ! When we get home it just gets washed and it is good to go again! Our car is not a DD but we drive and enjoy.. no matter what the weather is for the day.
No I don't think you are being ****. I have a 78 PC with 32k and it has not seen a drop of rain since it had 15k. I also have a 03AE with 5k on it and it has never seen rain. If you want to talk **** then I probably am since neither car has been drive with the driver using shoes.
Seems that most choose not to drive their cars in the rain. Guess that's why there is, and will continue to be, a lot of C5 "cream puffs" out there. I'll be in the market for another one some day. Thanks for keeping care of 'em for me.
I just love it when this subject comes up - gives me a chance to rerun this photo:
Now I know some of you are suffering from apoplexy now after seeing that, but they didn't melt. After this 3-day trip was over I just cleaned and detailed like I normally do.
If you don't drive in the rain in the Pacific Northwest, you don't drive!
Drive mine in the summer, rain or shine (but only on weekends). I NEVER drive it in the winter. Would be really hard to clean salt that gets blown into engine bay.

I do not know why people worry about rain as a reason not to drive a vette. Are people to lazy to wash a car these days? I own a black Z06 which is the hardest color to keep clean ,..and if I worried about rain , I would not have made a 3000 mile trip to fla. and back. I also have a 65 vert that has been restored and it is driven on long trips also and if it rains , so what. Why buy a vette if you do not drive it. Just my opinion.
