Default Any oil Consumption between changes?

i have an '01 with 42k miles on it, not driven hard for a 6 sp. Still using Mobil 1. It seems to burn about 1 qt. every 5k miles. Car was built in 9/00.

Do I have a concern or not? any thoughts?

I think some '01s had the ring problem and were supposed to be fixed under recall or warranty ...right? Did your Vette have the fix done? Check the service records...Anyway, one quart in 5,000 miles should cause no concern in my opinion...I think GM says one quart in 2,000 miles is normal but I don't agree with that.

I read the GM Service bull on the oil consumption troubles due to the rings, this car was built after they had changed over to the new ring set to resolve the issue. I'm the 2nd owner!

No oil burn here.

However, I would be able to live with a Quart every 5k miles.

Just have the clerk ring up one extra when ya change your oil!

Get a catch can and see how much oil passes the pcv...

Your intake will thank you either way.

A quart in 5000 miles isn't worth any worries!

My 03 doesn't burn a drop.

My Toyota 4Runner burned a quart every 4000 miles when it was new. It still burns a quart every 4000 miles and it's 10 years old now. A little oil burning is normal. Even a quart in 2500 miles could be considered normal consumption.

Here we go again.......................
My 01' mn 6 built 08 of 2000 burns no oil between oil change, and no recall done. If you drive in town above say 3000 rpm in any gear instead of shifting up you will see some oil consumption. Why people would do this I am not sure, but they do. To accommodate their customers for this anomaly GM changed the rings the following year. There is a whole write up on this issue, maybe someone can locate and post.

My 1998 MN6 with 104,000 miles does not use any oil between 6,500 mile oil changes.

I also agree that 1 quart in 5,000 miles is nothing to worry about.

I have an '01 just past 21K. I've been changing the oil when about 15% life left. It is almost a qt low at that point. On my trip about 1100 miles, after I got back it took 1 qt.

No leaks it's pristine, according to my mechanic it is quite normal and even a bit low for this year group.

And my thoughts on the recall/warranty, is it really worth having it completely torn down by the dealer service (not that there is anything wrong with them) to change rings? A qt every oil change is fine with me.

Oh and yes I'm one of those weird one's who likes to get at or about 3K rpm contributing to my problem. Sorry I like the acceleration and sound.

same thing here - '01 with 42k miles - I'm adding a quart about every 4-5k miles. I'm not concerned - its burning at the same rate since June 2001 when I got it

At a quart every 5K miles, don't worry about it. My '00 was using a quart every 1200 miles and had the rings replaced under warranty.

The 01s are known to burn oil and as has been said it was a ring issue but supposedly only the LS6 engine in the Z06. I've heard some coupe and vert owners complain. Here's the TSB:

http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/q....php?qstId=263

Good advice. Some oil is lost via the PCV and a catch can will let you catch it before its burned off. A qt every 5k is a pain but I've heard worse. Members who have pressed GM for a free fix have had great difficulty persuading them to act even under warranty.
