Default Shifting Questions........Please help

Posted this in the C5 Tech section but no one has chimed in. Maybe someone in here can help. If you really don't understand what I'm talking about, please let me know and I will try to explain a different way. See below.

I currently have an 03 Z with a Hurst short throw. I've been reading up on issues with the Hurst shifter regarding the notchy feeling of it. What got me interested in this is the fact that it seems like you just can't rip through the gears like one would imagine. What I had invisioned was something like slam(1st), slam(2nd), slam(3rd), slam(4th).........etc. In reality, it's more like a 2-point shift. (slam.click(1st), slam.click(2nd).....etc. I also did the "antivenom" mod with 1/8 thick washer. That made the shifts feel a little smoother, but it still feels like a 2-point shift. It also feels that way with the stock shifter. Is this just the way it is supposed to be??? Is there something else you guys have done to be able to just slap the gears back and forth??

Thanks for your help.

Changing the tranny fluid can make a difference in smoothness.

I have the same issue. Installed the ripper, did the 1/8 washer mod and still had trouble powershifting. The notchy feeling is less than before, but it's still there.

Pull the shifter boot and give it a nice lube.I do this to my Ripper every month and it helps some.

You also might try getting a shop manual and looking up how to adjust the shifter, I believe it is pg. 7-56 in the trans section on adjusting the linkage. This will also help because the shifter can be moved around where it bolts to the tunnel. I have a Hurst also and I can slam it directly from 2nd to 3rd and so on. I also have put in Royal Purple Synchromax trans fluid. I tried a few different brands and this one made the most difference.

At the RPM Transmissions site you can download a pdf covering the procedure.

I went through the same delima when I bought my Z that you're experiencing now. I tried several things to loosen up the shifting, all helped but its still not 100% where I'd like to be.

antivenom mod w/1 washer
lithim grease on all the moving parts of the shifter
alignment as outlined in the link above
switched to stock shifter (this didn't help so I put the B&M ripper back in)
changed the trans fluid to RP ATF

Next i'm thinking of trying a stock c6 z06 shifter.

This is correct. Shifting is a two point shift. DO not slam or powershift.

Well, I did answer in the other section already, but,..... From stock ZO6, to BPP, to antivenom mod, to Royal Purple trans fluid, to finally, a C6ZO6 shifter and careful alignment of cable attachment, it shifts pretty good now.
