You researched the law well and were rewarded for your defense. Good job!! Sounds like the judge was impressed or you would have paid.

Sounds like the city has not been keeping up with their traffic surveys, and you got lucky Just FYI, this doesn't work everywhere and not on every road.

This defense will also not work on 4 lane divided highways as speed violatons are cited under a different code (ie. the freeway). This is California (CVC) though, but many states are similar.
Uh-oh! Sounds like "Defender" wants to be put on a consultant retainer!

Thanks everyone for the Kudos. I did do a fair amount of research (AKA: Googling) to find something that satisfied what I wanted to say. I'm just glad I didn't have to request a Trial de Novo. I would've been shaking in my boots.

As an added note, here's the exact wording on the letter from the Superior Court of California, County of Kern.

"NOTICE OF JUDGMENT
The Court reviewed your testimony and the Officer's report on 6/13/07 and made the following Order:

(X) Not Guilty as to Ct. 1 VC 22350
( ) Fine is ordered suspended
( ) Fine as as to Count is set at $$$$.$$ and is payable on or before
(X) The bail you posted in the amount of $200.00 will be:
(X) exonerated and returned to the Postee. Please Allow At least six weeks for the refund to arrive."

In the photo below, put yourself about 50' the other side of the 35 sign, and that's where my Passport lit up with LASER and made this God-awful sound at 5:41AM

Very well done and congratulations on the excellent write up. We also have a basic speed rule and I did lot's of research before I went to court. Ours is speeding in a construction zone or school zone. I did neither and the PO was just guessing. I actually received two tickets that night...I paid the one for not having my head lights on...I had the PIAA's on but I got the basic speed rule thrown out.

Goes to show...do your home work.
