Others have the sense and thoughts of a person much older than that. At 20 I had a car that ran mid 10s and certainly didn't handle as well as a C5. My point is, it's more a matter of who you are at ANY age whether you're 20 or 60 that's just a number. Where your head is at, That's what's important.
It is obviously not that rare. I thought I was rare when I bought my first at 18. Now I am 28, and I have owned (and without payments) 5 of them. I still own my first and my last. I guess there are more of us young Corvetters out there than most know.

Had mine since I was 17, just about to pay it off. Had a few scare moments, but I'm alive and the car is one piece :P

Everyone is different. I've met some 30 year olds that are too immature to own a Corvette let alone a car at all. But I've met some 20 year olds that were more mature and smarter then many others twice their age. So it's all about how you look at it.

I say enjoy you new car and if you are smart you will enjoy it for many years to come.

Has nothing (and everything) to do with age :-)

Its a car, you're licensed to drive one, does something have to happen, nope.

You may well be a responsible person who will enjoy a vette with little or no problem. If thats the case
But realize that if that is the case, it's not the "norm".

If you take any one hundred 20 year olds and give them all vettes, and take a hundred 30 year olds and also give them vetts, the group of 20 year olds will have more accidents, suffer more injury and encounter a greater incidence of problematic interaction with law enforcement.
Thats just a fact, cant help ya with that.

However it is not a certainty that "every" 20 year old will encounter the problems noted.

We have a ton of younger members here who have vetts, some screw up, most dont. If you are in the later group, you are performing at a level above that of your peer group.

So dont take it to heart when people say "a 20 year old should not have a vette" because more times than not, that is a true statement.

btw, Ive been to a gazillion motor vehicle accidents in my former career (NYC paramedic for 27 years) and while I can not recall ever having treated a 20 year old driving a vette, I can tell you that the vast majority of accidents occurr due to poor judgement (excessive speed for road conditions) or lack of ability (either from lack of experience, or impaired ability due to substance abuse) they are almost never an "act of God" thing (like a mechanical failure). The point being that the population between the ages of 15 and 25 are the group that start out with no judgement or ability and eventually (at different points for different drivers) arrive at good judgement and ability.
If someone is "ahead of the curve for their age" great for them, but like I said, more times than not thats not the case. Adding two or three times the acceleration and twice the top speed to the equation significantly decreases the number of "close calls" converting them to accidents.

The most valuable information you can gain from posts here would probably not be from the number of "I have a vette and Im 20" reply's but from the number of "Ive had a vette since I was 20, and Im 30 now and nothing untoward happened"
