Default big brake install.

I just bought a set of wilwoods and big rotors. Is this a difficult install or is it basically cut and dry? I want to see if it is worth the expense of having a pro do it.

The biggest challange are your wheels. Stock wheels do not or may not have the proper offset to fit over the caliper and rotors.

Putting on the rotors, calipers and SS lines is not that difficult to do.

Good Luck

If you are talking about the C6 Z06 brake upgrade then you need at least a 18" wheel up front with a 53mm offset. The biggest problem with the front calipers is getting them to clear the spokes of the wheel.

Well I just bought the C5 Z06 types 20" rear and 18" front. I do not know the offsets of the wheels.

It isn't a hard install at all. The most time consuming part is safety wiring all of the hat to rotor bolts.

Okay 7, I have no idea what that process is. Can't that be done while they are off the car?

They show you how to do it in the instructions. You just need to buy the tool and some safety wire. It is not hard to do. It's just a little bit tedious.

Some people just locktite the bolts. I used locktite and then safety wired them.

Thsi link gives you and idea on safety wure technique: http://www.whizwheels.com/Tips/safetywiring.html

I just did the install myself. If you have a a descent set of tools and some experience, you should be fine. I do recommend getting a MityVac brake vacuum kit. This worked well for me. You will also need a 8 and 11 metric sockets (3/8" drive) in "12 point". If you take a look at the bolts that mount the rotor to the hats, they are metric 8 with 12 points on them. The calipers use two mounting bolts that are metric 11, also in 12 point. I had to make special trips to Sears for these.
good luck,
john

Thanks John, Good info. I think I am going to brave this job and save the several hundred bucks. Hey John, you think it would be a problem for you to PM me your number in case I get stuck along the way. This way I can get immediate help if needed. How long did this take you?

I wanted to do the same got with John at CCW...Quick answer ( SP 500 )

"unfortunatley no, those wheels have the deep lip combo and really wont clear any 4/6 piston brake setups, z51-c6 parts will work, get you a 1" bigger rotor for about 400 up front"
