Some months back I reported on having intermittent problems with the car starting. Even trying both keys, sometimes the security system "thought" that the car was being stolen. (Sometimes at very inopportune times and places!) At first, the dealer said that the computer showed no problems with the security system. When I told them that the SECURITY remains on while driving, they took a closer look. Turns out that it wasn't the chip on the keys, it was a worn out cylinder in the lock assembly. After 7 years of inserting and removing the key, the contacts in the lock tend to wear. Fortunately, the work was covered under my extended warranty. Problem corrected.
So, if your anti-theft system acts funky and it's not the chip in the key, it could be the ignition switch.
The ignition switch isn't worn out, the lock cylinder is worn out.
Dont go asking the parts house for an ignition switcch unless you like going through hell to change it out and then find your problem is not cured!
Totally agree. I just replaced my lock cylinder yesterday due to a security VATS issue (code B2723). Problem solved. But, the issue is with the ignition lock cylinder NOT the ignition switch!

Good info Frozenfire.
BTW, keeping the large bundle keys and other assorted stuff, off of the key ring helps extend the longevity of the lock cylinder. I have a "quick release" on my key-ring that only has the ignition key on it so when driving, only my key (and small ring) are hanging off the switch, while the rest of my keys, fob, etc are in my pocket.

You have all that in your pocket - and here I thought you were just happy to see me!
My problem is that after hard turns the security light just comes on during driving and turns off when I turn the ignition off...only to come back on the next time I am out for a drive?
