There are thousands of things that I love about my Vette. I never would have guessed that the Convertible top would become by far my most favorite aspect of the car. It is so much fun to drive with the top down. I hear you loud and clear on the performance aspect. It is a shame that did not make a convertible Z. That is why I intend to beef mine up. Just installed a Vararam CAI, and Corsa X pipe and exhaust. Looks tight, and sounds like a beast with the top down!!!

The c5 is a great handling car, either vert or coupe......but neither come close to a z in their stock forms.
And yes my friend>>>: "in their stock forms"
But you can easily change a few suspension parts and add a few engine parts and have everything...power, handling AND the top down>>>you can't have that if you just have a ZO6...with a Z you have some extra power but you sweat like a pig with the fixed roof

I've got my radar up for a really killer Z deal right now but I wouldn't be without a vert to get one. My order of ownership would be (1) vert (2) Z06.

Someone needs to fix their A/C then. And you can sweat like a pig in a Convertible too. Just try driving in 100 degree or hotter weather.
I wouldn't trade my '01 Vert for a Z because:
1) With the top down or up I think it's the most beautiful Vette ever (I also own a '56 which is pretty too, although I think the C-3's are gorgeous, too)
2) For a convertible it's amazingly solid, dry, rattle free, handles great, and after sound deadening (which either car could use) comparitively quiet with the top up.
and 3) With a few mods power and handleing is easily improved.
I've owned M3's and Porsches and I like the C5 Vert best.
But hey, vive la difference, my son likes ricers, and I must admit the 350Z is pretty amazing to drive.
Just be sure to get a good sound car in colors you like and enjoy... You can't go wrong with a C5. Good luck.
Interesting poll, since most of us have already voted with our checkbooks...
I dislike Convertibles as a personal choice, and I never put the top down when we drove one. Heck we have had the t-tops off our Camaro once since we have owned it; and I ended up getting sun burned badly...
Would you rather have a C5 Z06 or C5 Vert.. Assume a 2002 model of each..
I'm stuck with a tough choice.
If you'd be so kind as to list your reasoning, it be great...
Buy a Vert, but of course I am a little biased It depends on what you want to do with the Vette. If you like the feel of fresh breeze blowing on a beautiful sunny day while cruising with your Wife/GF, then the Vert wins.
If you want Raw "Kick your butt" performance , the the z06 will be your choice. However, you can always spend a little money on mods and accomplish that....but to transform a Z06 into a Vert...it wouldnt be practical.

Noone has mentioned that there are companies that will transform your Z06 into a vert.. but it's $$$ (I think ~12k). Me personally, yes I voted with my checkbook (actually passed up a 25k Z06 for my 30k vert), I had hardtops. I need the feel of air flow and most times A/C doesn't do it. Performance mods are easy to do to outdo a Z06. One thing to keep in mind is that although the Z06 can do the same mods, if you put the same cam/heads/intake combo on a Z06 and a Vert your probably looking at the same power levels... so the weight is the only real factor. If you just like not having to deal with a top/wind noise/cold weather on occasion, hardtops for the verts are available (~3.5k) Z06 conversion suspension is also available, as well as the brake system. But again, it's all about what you want and WHAT'S AVAILABLE which can be even more important. A cross country trip for a "maybe" isn't in the cards for everyone. Some of us (like this guy) can only even afford the Corvette because the wife is forgiving!
