Obviously the more money I had the lower my demand would be for the years that are less desirable.

If I had a lot more money I would be interested in mid years and c6 z06 or c6.

C5 is the best match for how much money I want to spend.

If I had less money then a late model c4 would have to do. If I was broke then an early c4 would have to do.

The '83s are my least favorite.

It's even a bit of a sore subject between my wife and me, because I originally was going to find a nice low mileage LT4 C4, because in my price range, it was that or a high mileage, possibly less quality C5. Sure, I would rather have bought a nice C5, but I wasn't in a place financially where I could justify it. We were newly weds and renting an apartment.

Long story short, we bought a house, and a year of me looking at every used car sales website on the web later, my black M6 C5 showed up on the market under my $22K limit with only 9,7XX miles and we bought it.

The point of this whole thing is that I have always been disgusted with the fact that my wife gags at the thought of us owning a C4. I'll admit, the C4 is probably my least favorite style corvette to look at, but I still love the looks of them, and come on, it's a Vette. I was born in 1983 and she in 1985, so we grew up with the C4, how could she hate that style of Vette? Her dad has a black '69 convertible that she grew up around, so she loves Vettes, but not the C4.

Sorry, I probably sound like I'm blowing steam :o , and I don't mean for that to be the reason for this post. Now that we own a Vette, and have visited the museum and talked with numerous fellow owners, she is coming around and at least appreciating C4s for the fact that they are a huge part of the history of our car, but I don't see how anyone could feel that way about those cars. Does anyone have any input on this?

By the way, here are some pictures to make my whole long-winded story hit home. I know a post is only half a post without pics. Thanks.

On our way to the museum and assembly plant.

She wants a C1 next. She just doesn't know what they cost.

Good choice! I had an '87 about 12 years ago. I thought it was cool but it was nothing like my C5. My wife shares the same feeling about the C4 that yours does.

The smogged out C3's and the outdated look of the C4 are no camparison to what you have chosen to buy. Welcome to the family! I'm buying another C5 this coming spring. I need two. This one will be for the wife to drive....sometimes.

Seems a lot of people like the C4 least. I personally was very happy when they came out in 1984. I became car-conscious during the C2's....that split window '63 and really the whole generation will forever be my favorite from a visual perspective. Built many models of that car as a kid, during the 60's.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I couldn't stand the C3's. Didn't look streamlined enough in my opinion, and just had too many curves. C4's were an improvement. My C5 was the perfect blend of power and looks.......and I suppose I like the C6 better but won't admit it publicly.

I love to look all corvettes. I would love to have one from each generation. I now own a C5 EB Z06, and it does everything I need it to do. My next car down the road is either a 75 Corvette (Mod the hell out of it) or a 95 ZR1. I owned a 93 TR 6 Speed Convert. and I loved it, but couldn't pass up the Z06.

I agree that the C4 is the least aesthetically pleasing but apart from the C5 Z06 and 1963 Z06 coupe, a 93 Ruby ZR1 is one of my all time favorite Vettes

I would have to say my favorite generation is the C5 and not just because I drive one. I think the C5 is the culmination of what the Corvette was meant to be. The C5 takes the best of the C3s and C4s and brought the Corvette full circle. The C6 is nothing more than an improved C5, if you want to call that chopped off rear end and exposed headlights and improvement

Yes, the C6 has more HP, but its not a totally new Corvette like the C7 promises to be and like the C5 was when they came out.

All Vettes are great, some generations were better than others. I wouldn't mind having a '69 Vette parked next to the '04 but I wouldn't say the '69 was a better car. I LOVE ALL VETTES

You can find one of those at the Vette museum. That's the only on I've ever seen.

C1's are awesome. My dad had a '59. I loved riding in that car and it's the main reason I'm a Corvette fan today. Sure it's not as civilized as some newer generations but who cares....I mean look at the thing

I understand where she is coming from on the boxy comments and how it's different for the Range Rover to be boxy. It is different, but I still love the old Vettes. Nice C4 by the way, and C5 of course.
Compared to the C5, a C6 is "boxy".

"Didn't look streamlined enough in my opinion"

For it,s time i believe it was state of the art. Presently a classic design, but they ride like hell compared to todays models and are hot inside. Thats progress...

While it may be popular to malign the 84 now don't forget it was "state of the art" in its day right after following the underpowered federally mandated anemic nineteen seventies stuff. The 1975 Corvette delivered a whopping 165 horsepower folks! I was at the Bloomington Gold show in Chicago recently and saw a mint 1993 Ruby ZR-1 with 5K miles that would knock the socks off any true Corvette enthusiast!

He used to back into puddles and roast the tires off of it for me. It was a fast car in its day, and still would be considered a relatively fast car. I don't know about reliability and all of that, but I was sure proud of it. I had a friend in school that had a ragged '84 with 150K miles and he could make my '91 Formula with a 350 TPI look stupid in every category except mileage, paint condition, and carrying a second friend with you. I didn't like to admit it then, but that car was fast and when he and I would go anywhere, we took his Vette per my request.

Great post at least everyone is not slamming the other generations

I like my C5 makes a great driver, but is kind of hard to not to love popping the hood and seeing this.

You are not kidding! In the morning, I have to make sure I am wide awake before I back out of my garage and down my drive. It is extremely tight. I have about 20" overall clearance at the tightest spot (mirrors to walls). I am taking one of the walls down and moving it back about 48" next month. It's going to be tough though, because I want to make darn sure I salvage all of that old stone.

to the post. Thanks.

The other nice thing about the C4 hood configuration is the fact that you don't have to work over a fender. My uncle has an incredible C4 that is virtually a race car, and working on it is nice because you can basically perch yourself on a front tire to access the engine compartment.
