When I tried that thickness, the shifter felt too sloppy, so I went with a total thickness of .100 (two .05"-thick washers) and my shifter is MUCH easier to pull or push into gear. You end up with a shorter throw than the recent insulated shifters, but less effort than the no-venom-mod Hurst, BPP, Ripper shifters. (I have the BPP)

^^Very little if any. Recommend using a silicone sealer when doing the mod.

Is the problem only noticable on aftermarket shifters? I have a factory shifter that I cut the top 1 1/2" off, and it works fine. I've not once thought "I wish it were easier to shift..."

I'm not flamin, just curious as I've never noticed the problem.

I just installed my B&M Ripper SS. Damn that thing short! Love the throws, hate the increased effort. That's why I am looking up this mod...

Thanks for posting the tutorial.

Another possible aid would be Royal purple syncro maX (FOR PRE 01) Check out sticky "weights, measures---" My 2000 was getting a little balky sometimes going into first after sitting at a light in neutral. Did the "ranger" clutch flush, put R P syncromax,,now . couldn't hurt and very well could help quite a bit. I'm VERY satisfied!!!

I've got a ripper as well, did the anti-venom mod this past winter, two washers, and changed the tranny oil with Redline DT-4 fluid. The car shifts awesome, less effort, smoother operation.

I did the mod with three thin washers. It's much better now! 4th to 5th is still pretty stiff...Thinking of addign a fourth.

Aligned the shifter???? Please explain.

I did this modlast night as I added a short throw shifter last week, and I now understand why you would want to. I used a 3/4" lock washer that I opened up a bit and it totally removed the detent ball from the equasion. It is sooooooooo much nicer to shift now. I thought last night that the tranny oil may be able to seep out mow due to the fact that the lock washer has a gap in it, so I'm gonna give it a look today after driving it last night.

I wonder as I think on it, and please post up.... Does the detent ball hold the car in gear? In other words, is there now a risk of the car popping out of gear upon deceleration? I played with it last night and it didn't seem to want to come out of gear on accident, but I feel it's worth asking....

I did the Anti-Venom mod 2 years ago and never looked back (I think it's a must do). As far as your concern of fluid leaking past the lock washer, "Fogedabouit", The opening is way too high in the case to ever leak (even splash won't find it's way out). You can look up there next time you get it on a lift, but believe me it'll be just as dry as it is now. I didn't get to this conclusion by myself, through the many threads on this mod others have made this same statement. "Don't worry, Be Happy!"

None, it's a personal preference thing though... tweaking to suit your personal driving style and needs.

I used two shims and cut 1.5 loops off the side springs in my Ripper to get things just the way I like it.

I agree, I did exactly as you did, with same shifter. I did however change the trans fluid with redline DT 4 fluid as well, VERY NICE!
