only problem I've ever had with my 04 is the air-box keeps unclipping
Na Ha - I had this too! resolved by cutting two squares out of the air filter with a kitchen knife! Allowing the clips to fully lock in

As for breaking down, my 2004 has been in the garage more than out and I am worried as it is service time again They just seem to keep it in

I had the column lock at about 13k, had a gas leak and heater core at about 28k , all fixed under warranty. I have not had any problems since, 49k on the clock.

Default oh, four problems

I just got my '04 this month, and it looks like I'll need to keep my eyes on at least four problem areas based on trends in this thread:
  1. Rear seal leaks
  2. Column locks
  3. Battery
  4. Hood liner

Thanks for the tips!

Default ooops

ooops! I just did a little research and found out I should not have the column lock worry because my '04 is an automatic transmission. If correct, wheeew! One less problem .....

@9,500 miles left rear bearing assembly gave out. The dealer said they had never seen one fail, hopefully just a freak thing.

13K on mine and had the rear seal replaced by dealer under warranty, had the dealer do whatever it is they do for the column lock recall, also had the revised "H" pipe and gas filler neck replaced. Now no more shutting off gas pumps and no jingle sound from orig "H" pipe. Also the vette tech at the dealer said my Magnetic suspension shocks were leaking and replaced them all...under warranty.(thank god) Other then that great car and wish I used it more but I do not want to drive it into NYC and hand it over to the parking garage ahhh people !

My right rear wheel bearing started going out at about 20K, but I can't blame the car -- I spun it off Turn 3 at Summit Point raceway during a HPDE, and the right rear wheel and right muffler took the brunt of the (fortunately relatively soft) stop against a berm. Bending the right muffler meant that (aw, gee) I had to replace the mufflers with Z06 pipes

Other than that, I have a small drip where the clear top meets the windshield (of course, directly over the driver's left thigh!). It must be seal issue on the clear top, as there's no leak when the solid top is installed, and it doesn't leak unless the door is opened at some point after it's been raining for a while. I really need to figure out how to fix that one of these days ...

I don't count the typical squeaks and rattles of a four year old car as "defects," so the one drip is my only issue in about 18K miles of daily driving.

04 comm. here.
1.) window regulator on passenger side croaked(warranty fix)
2.) leaky rear end(no warranty at time of leak, made a good excuse to install 4.10s)
3.) ocasionally, once every 2-3 months, get a service stability control message in Dic(probably a ground issue), goes away on it's own

Doesn't sound too bad until you factor in that the car only has 7000 miles, but at least I got the 4.10s right.

04 CE here, no major issues. Had two speakers replaced under warranty from when I got the car from first owner (currently have 12K miles). Rear hatch has some minor imperfections in the paint around the flag. Not very noticeable, run a search on 99-04's.

24,000 miles on mine and two problems...

!) The prior owner had to have the rear window replaced under warranty due to defroster problem.

2) The pass window just stopped working, will be going to the dealer for extended warranty repair next week

All else is good to go...

My car has an annoying rattle in the dash in cold weather, and that window still makes noise (I'm going to take the door apart myself this winter). I've owned the car just about one year, and I've got 42,000 miles on it.

Definitely the most warranty returned vehicle I've ever owned, the only other vehicle I had that came close was a '92 Pontiac, in my experience GM still doesn't know what Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y means.

But, it's a unique, and fun car to drive and I enjoy it. I'm just disappointed in the quality, it really shows up if you use the car on a regular basis.

John
Maybe you don't know what U-N-L-U-C-K-Y MEANS. I'm just having fun. I've owned 3 Monte Carlo's, 1 Grand Prix, 2 Impala's, 1 Denali, 1 Corvette, 1 Lumina van, 1 Camaro SS, 1 Beretta, bought many Cavaliers for my Mom, none with ANY problems! Had a Pinto once in my younger days, engine blew at 31,000 miles, they had an oiling problem. So. I guess it happens to everyone....Good Luck on your next Vette.

20,000 miles and so far.... It's tracked about 11 times.

Glove box sticks sometimes, I have to hold the latch open to close it
Truck unlocks but doesn't actually open on its own
Differential leak
Power steering leak, replaced pump
Bad o2 sensor
Cracked ti exhaust at muffler exit
Occasionally the radio looses it's memory settings
Occasionally I start the car and it stalls immediately, never has a problem on the second shot.

20K on my 04Z and no real problems yet. One minor problem was resolved by installing a "Trunk Popper". Other than that...life is good!
