People are funny, they talk without having a clue!!!
I haven't had someone say my Z is a fake yet but I had a lady walking away from her Camaro flag me down so she could admire the Vette!!! I stopped in the parking lot a bit for her, and then after we came out of the store two 9-10 yr old kids were staring at me and waving!!!!
Anyway you have to take the good with the bad.
Driver the Z06 with pride and let him drive his NOT-A-Z06!!!!
hey my 01 is now nearly 8 yrs old...if he is 20-he was only 12 ,of course he couldn't identify a c5 Z,course i'm 60 and i have a hard time identifying a 63 z, because there were so few, but my brother had a 63 340hp stingray, and i drove it to my 64 high school grad nite...boy what blast..my poor date, i enjoyed driving the car more than being with her....
i always explain to people my 01 z , is a re-introduced z06, since they made a hundred or so in 63...
bud
I was told today while out and about, by a 20-something: "Man that is weak, posing as a Z06!"
"Your car can't be a Z06 it is a C5!"
I didn't know what to say, I was too busy picking my jaw off the ground... Guy got into his Subaru and drove off, with me standing there dumbfounded. I was thinking about it later and he got the generation right, which leads me to believe he was yanking my chain!?!?
That is the wierdest thing anyone has said to me about the car though...
I have to laugh, now. I own a Subaru currently. I have owned one for the last 2 1/2 years. In all that time I have never met a Suby guy that was THAT stupid. Corvettes are revered in our community, as are all high performance vehicles. This must have been a lone wolf retard (the worst kind). I kinda feel that the Subaru reference was a dig on Subys....I hope I'm wrong.
You are giving the younger import crowd too much credit here..
Hmmm. Maybe I hang out with the smarter import guys. Anyways, if the guy knew enough to use the terms "C5" and "Z06", I think he was messing with you. Now if it was a guy with with a winged, fart-piped, clapped-out, body-kitted, 4-door Accord saying your "Camaro" wasn't a real "ZL6" or something similar, I would chalk it up to brain-damage...

Negative, I have nothing at all against Subaru vehicles, just stating mere fact. The more I think about it though, the more I am convinced he was just looking for a reaction since he had the generation correct (C5) but was refusing to recognize my car as a "Z06".
You know though there are owners who never get on car forums, and may have not even gotten on the internet. But I don't think this Forester owner is typical of the Subaru enthusiast community.

Thanks for that admission. I may be desperately wanting a 'Vette but I'm still very loyal to my Suby crowd. Did his Forrester look/sound stock? If so I tend to think it was a gift from mommy and daddy and he WAS truly ignorant....Hell, I'M not sure I would be able to instantly tell the difference between 5 and 6....REALLY sad I know but truth nonetheless. I can spot a Z though.....

Sounded stock to me, because I do like the sound of those boxer engines with an exhaust. Then again I don't want to expound on my ignorance of Subaru's either by giving anything more than a passing account of his car.

Fair enough. Your maturity is noted and much appreciated....though hopefully I didn't insult you by stating the possibly obvious.

He's still an idiot though.
So, Corvette never won any races at the 24 Hours of LeMans, prompting the model C5/Z06 limited edition commemorative designation of 2004 Z16? (yes, I recall your previous negative posts about the Z16)

in a previous post the original zo6 from the 60's was mentioned. i'll bet most people don't know that car existed. it would be great to have one of those now.
It's true. The C6Z gets alot more press than the ever C5Z did based on over 500hp and countless foreign TV time it has received. The C5 Z06 never reached the same global attention level. Do a search on Google for Z06 and 75% of the results are C6 related. I am not surprised that some people don't know that a C5 Z06 exists, but it doesn't excuse their ignorance.
I always find these conversations with (to be nice, I'll call them less than informed individuals) to be pretty entertaining. Having owned a '94 Trans Am, a '00 Trans AM WS6, an '03 Civic Si, and an '05 WRX STi, I've been on both sides of the American muscle / Import fence. The STI was a pretty mean little machine, by far the fastest from the factory that I'd owned until I bought the Z06. In the end, I couldn't stand all of the ignorance in the ricer community that's primarily dominated by high school and young college kids. I wanted a Corvette ever since my father bought his first 'Vette in 1996. I bought my Z just over a year ago, and there's no turning back. I always get a good laugh from kids trying to bash a z06.

Or from a stop without drag radials. Launching an STI is as easy as bouncing it off of the rev-limiter and dunping the clutch. An informed STI driver will launch at about 4600-5200 rpm's and quickly slip the clutch for consistent 4.4-4.5 0-60 times all day long. Unless you get a perfect launch on street tires, there's a good chance that you'd be playing catch-up until at least 80mph. Never under-estimate the abilities of a turbocharged all-wheel drive car.

I would have embarrassed him with some education on the subject matter.
