I am glad (it sounds like) you didn't bite. Any time someone claims to be involved with an Ebay transaction and asks you to do something and the email did not come through Ebay (you can find the message in your MyEbay messages) send it to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com. They are usually, almost always, a SCAM!

That's the correct e mail addy to report suspicious auctions and offers. There is a spoof@paypal.com also for those requests for your paypal info. We sure do live in a crooked world.
Write them back, tell them that you really want the item...so badly, in fact, that you're willing to buy it for $600. Then ask them to send you $100 towards the cost of a ticket to where they are so you can pick it up in person.
Thanks for all the info everyone. Will report it to e-bay.
I'm going to reply to the e-mails and tell them I will send them a cashiers check for $2000. They can deduct the cost of the top and send the remainder to my shipping company who will come pick up the top!
HI there,
I was looking at this item after it was sold.I wish I would have seen it while it was active.I would have bid on it.
Remember only you & the seller of the item can view your user ID in the bid history, otherwise security has been breached.Thats what happened in this case. The crook that e-mailed you talks about" the buy it now price". Tip off there was no" buy it now price option".Also sellers always charge for shipping especially a large item as a car top, unless you live within driving distance from the seller. Appears to me the real seller lives in upper MICHIGAN.
This seller "upmich68" feedback is 100% which is excellant. You want to buy from sellers like this, besides he is a member since 1998 and not one who just joined without any feedback.I would contact him and ask him what the story is.
It appears to me that e-bay member wb8169 received a really nice c5 t/r top from upmich68.If he did not receive the top then upmich68 is a fraudulant seller and so is his accomplice.
I also see that another e-bay member or posing as a e-bay member is trying to get $280 dollars from you for a item that he does not have.(sickly romanian mother should be reported to security).Security if they are aware of this situation will find out if the seller is a honest one & who his accomplice is.Thats pure romanian B S. wb8169 should have posession of the top.
When you are the winning bidder e-bay tells you that you are. They direct you to pay the seller using pay-pal: In this case $280 dollars thru pay-pal account xxxxxx. The only message you should have received is: "you have been out bid" sent by e-bay motors.com
Hope this helps.Keep us posted on the outcome.

Reason: additional info.
Forward to spoof@ebay.coM and you will get an email from ebay saying it was a scam, don't play with the guy and see if you can hassle him for fun, otherwise you will be on a list and you will get bombarded with scams. I believe they feel if they get an response from somebody you go on the possible sucker list.
Sounds like a scam, but keep looking, I kept bidding and finally got an exact match top in perfect condition for $300.!!!! You will find a lot of junk yards (re-cycling centers) selling them!
I have gotten my FleaBay feedback up to 1000, so I've been around there awhile. Take it from me.......S C A M! No question. You should avoid all transactions like that, especially those that aren't through FleaBay. Paypal & FleaBay both only offer (very)limited protection for your money, & if you're doing transactions outside of an actual auction there, you have NO protection. Try & deal with people who have a high feedback number(with as close to %100 of it being positive as you can get),
& you will lessen(I repeat, only lessen) your chances of getting scammed. Good luck!
PS: You know what they say..."If you have to ask, then you probably know the answer!"
And also I have my paypal set up through American Express so it is completely safe-I've called them and asked and AMEX says 100% covered for fraud etc on EBAY. If the vendor doesn't accept paypal with AMEX then I don't buy- not worth it IMHO
Scam!!! Guy on Ebay said he was in Cohutta, GA selling a pretty nice '75 Corvette convertible, but a friend of mine found the same car in Hemmings and it was in Ohio.

Mr Scammer

Was this the top you were talking about last sunday? Damn, I was hoping you would get it. Remember, be weary of any transactions involving, "being out of the country....away for business...wire me back the extra cash..." See you in our next gtg.
You see, this is exactly why I bought my Monopoly game. I follow through with scams like this and send them Monopoly money along with a picture of an old man with a big stupid grin. Man, what I wouldn't do to get a photo of that "Kodak moment".
I get them all the time. Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com and they will look into it. Never buy anything out of auction, unless you do it in person. This is because then Ebay can't help you if something goes wrong. Also never respond to an email email asking for any info. Check in your ebay account for any messages.
