Default Flea Bay Question UPDATED!

I bid on a torch red top for my C5 last weekend but got busy with other stuff and didn't follow through. I bid up to $150 but somone must have had an automatic bid because it kept coming back with an "youhave been out bid" message.

Anyway, I got this email today. I checked the item and it shows a winning bid of $280 (I would have gladly paid that). This sounds fishy, is it a scam?

Hi,
I'm the owner of this item (the one you've recently bided on) - Item number: 130190727020
I am in a bussines trip for 3 weeks and i want to close the auction earlier because i don't have time for it so please let me know your best price. I`ll provide you 5 days money back guarantee, no questions asked. That mean! s within 5 working days you decide if you don't want to keep the item. The deal will go strictly according to ebay's rules and policy regarding to this buy it now offer- to start the official transaction, i need to know:
First name:
Last name:
Shipping address:
City/State:
Country:
Postal Code:
Your best price:
As soon as i have them i'll start the official procedure, and ebay will notify you about this. You'll also receive important guidelines + instructions from them (please go through them exactly).
I'll handle and pay for the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you.

Now I got another e-mail from a different address:

masmen7@aol.com

"Hello,
In order to make the transaction legit so we can be able to exchange feedback once completed I will have to get in touch with eBay Department. I will need to confirm me the following details:
* your complete name
* your complete shipping address
I'm located overseas for the moment, in Romania because my mother is ill, and we are here for an operation. She has a heart condition. I have to stay here for at least two weeks. Must inform you that I have the item in the custody of the shipping company who helps me every time to ship the goods to the buyers addresses. A 100% serious company and I have a contract with them. Regarding the shipping insurance, who protects my items from any damages on the way to the buyer, I can inform you that they are already paid. Shipping is covered by me so don't have to be worried to pay extra charges for delivery.So the final price will be US $150.00
Once you will provide me the requested details (full name, address) I will contact the eBay Department and they will do the rest. They will send you the rest of the instructions and info regarding this process. You need to follow the instructions exactly so we can be both protected by their Purchase Protection and Refund program. Positive feedback is assured once everything is fixed up.
Thank You and along with the requested details email

Scam..... First sentance gives it away. The individual who wrote this is foriegn and we all know that usually indicates a scam, plus he is trying to get your shipping information by other means than paypal or ebay.

Smells like a duck, walks like a duck ..... its a f'ing duck.

Dang it! I was afraid that was the case. I was hoping to get a painted top for under $300. Oh well, I guess if it seems too good to be true.....

How do I report this to ebay? Can I just forward the e-mails to them? Sorry, I am an e-bay nube.

I have had the same issues with many internet car listing sites such as "Cars.com". Many amazing deals on great cars. The postings always list a US address but the e-mail comes back from someone who just "moved to the US" and will be bringing the car into the US "soon" or lives outside the country.

I've pretty much given up on these internet sites as there are so many scamers on them. The websites generally don't give a hoot and don't police their posters so most of the deals are bogus.

The seller on Ebay is Legit with Good Feedback.

The auction winner is wb8169 for $280.

So unless you are the wb8169 you are being scammed by some low life MF who should be strung up by his *****.

I have gotten my FleaBay feedback up to 1000, so I've been around there awhile. Take it from me.......S C A M! No question. You should avoid all transactions like that, especially those that aren't through FleaBay. Paypal & FleaBay both only offer (very)limited protection for your money, & if you're doing transactions outside of an actual auction there, you have NO protection. Try & deal with people who have a high feedback number(with as close to %100 of it being positive as you can get),
& you will lessen(I repeat, only lessen) your chances of getting scammed. Good luck!

PS: You know what they say..."If you have to ask, then you probably know the answer!"

Forward a copy of the e-mail to "spoof@ebay.com". They will let you know quickly if it is a spoof or not. Sounds fishy to me.
