WTF? I logged into my e-bay account and there were only two messages, welcoming to e-bay. Nothing about a second chance offer. Now I'm really pissed! 
Thanks for the help on this. I'm new to e-bay but I'm never going to even look at e-bay again. Why don't they just call it scam-bay! What a frigging waste of my time.

Most of the sellers and buyers are honest folks, you just have to read and follow the rules.Crooks are not unique to eBay

Again, if you want to know what is REAL, go on the for sale site on eBay and click on the "Ask seller a question" and ask the original seller what is going on

I bid on a torch red top for my C5 last weekend but got busy with other stuff and didn't follow through. I bid up to $150 but somone must have had an automatic bid because it kept coming back with an "youhave been out bid" message.
Anyway, I got this email today. I checked the item and it shows a winning bid of $280 (I would have gladly paid that). This sounds fishy, is it a scam?

yeah these guys are targeting the bidder emails. And hoping you do not pay attention to the real account email of the auction owner.
There is an option when you create an auction to protect bidder information.
This should be used if you host an auction
