I ran cutouts back in the F-body days and it was pretty neat the first week, but after a while they got annoying. I thought I would open them up and shut them based on where I was going, not for long. Crawling under the car every week was a pain to say the least. It also would drone in the cabin because it was un-muffled.

Then I went out and got electric ones on a Lightning I had. After maybe 4k miles the motors went out and only one butterfly worked. The truck still droned when they were open but because I could close them with a switch that wasn't as bad, until one got stuck open. Closing the other one was just weird sounding and I ended up taking them off and putting on a Magnaflo.

Now with the vette I said forget it. Got me some Borlas and I love them. Loud as all hell when I whack it and no drone when cruising. My .02 is to get a decent set of mufflers and call it a day.

If you search this forum (in the red banner), use keywords "cut outs" or "QTP" or similar for past discussions. It gets asked/answered a lot.
Most of the complaints of past were about the valves eventually not functioning as well as when new.

I love em, girlfriend hates them.

Here is a simple picture of my setup. 2.5 inch QTP with downpipes

Some people have had issues with the flaps leaking or not closing all the way. The only issue I have is one closes slower than the other (which is not a big deal because they stay open as much as possible). If you do decide to get a set, I would go with the standard 'flip switch' control and not the electronic push button setup.
The electronic push button control will close your cutouts when you turn the key on, so you have to open them back (should you want them open when you turn your car on).

You can PM Patches, he was a great help with my install along with a couple other guys on here. Patches has the cleanest undercarriage that i've seen in pictures and his cutout install looks awesome. I'm sure he will chime in and answer any questions that me or some of the other guys cannot.

I have DMH cutouts on my car and love them. With the stock cat back my car is pretty quiet, but sounds like a race car when I want it to. I love the sound of a big V8 and get a lot of compliments when it's open, but don't need that much attention or noise all the time. There's a single button on my console that dosen't detract from the interior at all.

How do you route the wiring up into the cabin? Do you have to drill a hole in the floorpan?

I heard blk04z's car at Carlisle and it sold me, too bad QTP didn't have any products on hand that day. As soon as I got home that evening I ordered a set.

You can route above the exhaust tunnel plate and then through your shifter. I went the really lazy route and drilled a hole in the area where the stock CD changer is and routed the wires up under the carpet. The plugs from the controller and the control wires from the cutouts sit to the side of my shifter and I have the digital control tucked in the ashtray spot.

btw: I sealed the inside of the hole with dynomat and have no exhaust fumes in the cabin.

Do a search on the Events & Regional Forum for a member called sixsixvette! He just had some custom cutouts done in Norman, Oklahoma.

I just posted another thread about this. I elected to not go the electric route and went with these. I made them myself. Takes seconds to remove and install.

Hey dude,it ain't just for the young guns,I'm older than your daddy and am getting Corsas for every day,and am planning cut outs for when I'm going to the track,or when I just feel like being a little rowdy. And while I have some years behind me, I'll put my reaction times up against anybody.Averaged In the mid .0XX to low .1XX with a best of.001.Some of us old guys like to have fun too Dunno, maybe I just refuse to grow up!!!

I had a set of QTPs but never installed them. Sold them to a forum member because I was too lazy to weld the pipes. If I could do it again I would have spent the money and had someone do the work for me. Now I am stuck with the task of manually switching my exhaust when I get sick of the drone.
Oh yeah, be careful not to push the hanger bolts into the frame or you might have to remove part or all of the rear fascia.
