I think anything over 500 rwhp is overkill. I have a supercharged C5 and except for the occasional sprint to reach freeway speeds it goes unused. If your taking it to the track that's different.
my dad is going to buy one with cash...and it is going to be his first vette ever!!!! I'm jealous but happy for him, at least i will be able to say i have driven the new zr1... and if you look at it this way, some day i will inherit this machine from him, that is what he keeps telling me!!!!!

Not sure about that.......my Line of Credit is now at 5% and all I have to do is write a check to use it......no closing costs, etc. Don't know if you can get a first mortgage at 5% but even if ya can, the closing cost would have to be factored in............
Home Equity Lines are available for primary residences, second homes and investment properties. The second home loans require a 0.75% increase in the interest rate and max. CLTV is 90%. All Home EquityLines are variable-rate products, and the annual percentage rate, payment, or term may change. For Loan/Line amounts up to $350,000, closing costs typically range between $150 and $900. For Loan/Line amounts between $350,000 and $1 million, closing costs typically range between $600 and $20,000. The closing costs depend on the location of the property and the amount of the Equity Loan/Line. You must carry homeowner's insurance on the property that secures this plan. Home EquityLines of Credit are not available in Texas. Current rates range from 5.00% APR to 12.25% APR with a plan maximum of 18% APR.
The new ZR1 is awesome but to be honest I would just buy a C6Z and slap a power adder on and be done.
I may be the only one, but for $100,000+, the ZR1 just doesn't do it for me. There are SO many guys that are putting out that kind of hp already, so all you're buying is the collector potential and a great engineered car. But for me persoanlly I would love to have a C6Z06 with about $10,000 in mods that would allow me to spank any stock ZR1 built. I guess I just love the potential of that 427 small block
Don't forget to factor in that insurance premium!!

I think they'd be hard pressed to find a bank that will give them a mortgage to purchase a car. Cars loose value so fast. At least with a house, they could seize it and recoupe most of their money if one would default on the loan.
Unless of course, one would be borrowing money against the equity they already have in their home. One car wreck away from being homeless. Hope that ZR1 has good car insurance.
Being the 'first' on the block is an expensive endeavor.
The original ZR-1 sold for up to twice sticker when they first came out, almost the same with Ron Fellows Z cars. I'm thinking there's a lesson here.
when you get up into that dollar amount you have a hell of a lot of options. The Corvette has always been the best "bang for the buck" sports car you could buy but once you get into the $130000 + range there are some really serious cars out there.I've got aprox 500hp under the hood now and I find very few opportunites to use even most of it, so hp figures really don't impress me.
If I were going to lay out that kind of money I'd be looking at the R8, GT2 or GT3 not a ZR1 and I wouldn't use my cash at today's interest rates it pays to use someone else's money.
But I'm more than happy with my C5, hell, I LOVE the thing, so I really have no plans to buy anything ( ain't it nice NOT to have a car payment?)

It will be first things first.
Closed on a rental house we sold this week. Pay off our own home in the next 2-3 months. Pay off C5. Save a good down payment to hopefully offset the depreciation of the first few years of ownership.
Might actually, by that time, come across a "pre-owned" ZR1 or a 2nd or 3rd year addition. GM might have all the "bugs" worked out by then.
I'm not going to rush into these things.
Think....then act.

I owned a C4 ZR-1 and became familiar real quick on the expense
of any engine problems.I'd like to see the estimated maintenance
costs of this exclusive vehicle before I'd even consider it and then
the sticker would have to be more within my budget.
I'd be more content in the long run with a C6 Z06 and keeping
my modded C5 as a bonus.Surely, maintenance costs will be
far lower than the prestige of a ZR1.I'd hate to find out
what body repairs cost for a ZR1 with all that carbon fiber!!!

That's why I might wait untill the 2nd or 3rd year run. Don't want to get a dud.
Well of course this is up to you and you may see things differntly but going DEEP into an auto loan would scare me. I realize the mortgage would be paid off but wow, after working so hard for so long I think I'd get more enjoyment of living debt free not having to owe anybody.
No doubt the ZR-1 is an awesome car, if you really want one, wait a bit and get one used. Chances are there will be someone who can't afford it who bought it and has to unload it...
Glad to see you back online.
Think Charlotte will let me move the minivan out of the garage?
I think the minivan is s a f e, for now anyway. 007 Hopefully you will be the first one in the club to purchase the beast. If so, look out the fun has just begun......

We know who the first one in the club is that will be buying the "beast". I'm looking more toward 1 or 2 years down the road.
Might go the cheeper path and get the CALLAWAY POWER GROUP 2 & 3 added to the C5.
