Other than that the paper manual for a specific year is identical to the DVD manual for that same year. The DVD also provides a search capability for Key Words and DTC codes so you don't have to hunt around trying to find them, just type into the entry block and the manual gets you all related DTC data including tech bulletins that are not part of the manual itself and have to purchased separately if you buy a paper manual. Another advantage of the DVD manual is that it gives you all C5 years from 97-04 plus all other GM cars. A hell of a lot of data for $20+. Paper just can't hold a candle to it.

Want to sell a copy of the DVD ?

I got the DVD with all of the GM cars on it and it's not as good as the manual is.

You have the same DVD as what Bill described. Maybe you don't have it completely installed? There's tons of data on that DVD but the install is an abortion if you don't do it exactly as the instructions state.

Well Junkman, I did not get any instructions with the DVD and it was a PIA to install.

It took 8GB on the HD. If you have instructions, I would appreciate them.

Thanks

PM me your email address. I just happened to have created a PDF file of those instructions. You'll need to completely uninstall the product and follow these instructions to the letter. If you try and wing it, you'll just end up right where you are right now, not realizing the amount of data that you actually have access to.

That is true. It only works with Windows 2000/XP (Home & Pro). Does not work with Vista, any version.

Default DVD Manual

Hi, got the DVD today, from a member. He sent full instructions to install. I installed it and it went glass smooth. Took about 15 minutes. No problems or errors. It is a great manual, all the info you could want. One thing I did notice about it, is when you Block it's internet permission it won't retrieve the info you want. Allow internet access and it works fine. I presume it gets it's info from a central server run by GM somewhere. FYI I'm using it on a Sony Vaio desktop, 3.2 pentium 4, 2 gigs ddr, 160 hd. I'm totally happy with it.
Good Luck..

Upon further investigation, I now believe that it does not get it's info from a central server at GM, but from a file on your hardrive. By blocking int access it,(firewall), could not allow internet explorer to access the file and vice versa. It sees int explorer as an ip address, even though it's internal, and so you have to not block int access for it to function. The application uses ie as it's client to work through. Not being a computer geek, that's the best explanation I could come up with. Bottom line is that it works flawlessly for me, and has 10 tons of info on it.

Actually, you've explained it quite well. The 127.0.0.1 is what we call a loop-back address. We use this to test the functionality of a network card. If you block Internet access to the program, it will fail. However, the program is not going out on the web and looking at any databases (thus the 15 minute install time).

127.0.0.1 is your local machine.

After all "There's no place like 127.0.0.1"
