I would have turned to the kids after the parents didn't get it and yelled at their kids in front of them. I'm sure they wouldn't like that but someone's got teach those little sh**s how to respect other's property. Apparently the parents also need some teaching.

Your experience is indicative of how many young parents raise their children today. I've experienced the same type of problems with neighbor kids playing in in our yard. If I've asked them once, I've asked them 100 times note to play in our yard or ride their bikes on our grass. I've talked to their parents several times and it's obvious they could care less. We were told by one of the parents that if his kids playing in our yard bothered us so much, we should think about moving. I was taught that if something didn't belong to you or you had no reason to be there, you stayed away from it.

I stopped by Walmart a couple of weeks ago and there were two young boys jumping on the hood and roof of their parents (I hope it was their parents) car in the parking lot. I guess when kids are allowed to do things like that with their own property, they certainly aren't going to have any respect for yours.

Ditto to all the views that the kids will be the ones to reap the problems sewn by these moronic parents. Your missed a good opportunity to do the kids a favor and enjoy a bit of satisfaction by calling the police to report a DUI with kids in the car.

Kids don't think, they are impulsive, lack restraint, and have no boundaries. I have to buff the tail of my 'Vette where the two letters "W" and "A" of "wash me" were scratched into the clear, by a student I caught in the act of writing on my car. I calmly explained to him that by doing that he just sand-papered those two letters on my finish. KIDS ARE SO STUPID, if I didn't explain to the kid (17 years old) that what he did damaged the car, I'm sure, without a doubt, he'd do it again.

Now remember, if I punched the kid in the mouth, I'd likely go to jail for assault, (as the little darling sat in the courtroom with a wired jaw) and the Corvette, being paid for, would be sold for legal fees, and of course I'd never teach again, and have a felony assault on my record (no gun purchases either). Who would win in that scenario? I'd rather spend 20 minutes and re-buff a spot on my car, and try to change the kid's behavior in a positive way, so he will think first before he acts in the future.

Next time, calmly tell the parents to remove the children from your car,
(while holding open cell phone in hand) because you are going to call the police, and report a vandalism in progress. And if they flee, you just might get that DUI too. THINK, do the right thing, they will not forget that lesson, loss to you.................. a little buffing or painting.......ON THEM!

When I was growing up this sort of behavior would have been in the minority but it's commonplace today. An indication of our culture moving to the left - not everyone mind you but for many individual responsibility and respect for other people's property is not an option.

It's a shame these parents don't see any value in respecting other people's property, especially an expensive sports car. I wouldn't care if it was a junker car the kids were playing on. I would still not allow the kids to do that if I didn't own it. They said you were out of line to tell them what to do w/ their kids, but the sad thing is that you had to say anything in the first place. Clearly some jealousy as well w/ the rich kid comment regarding your vette. I suspect these are some very unhappy people in general and you happened to be available for them to dump on. You handled this very well in that you didn't return their bad behavior with the like. Good for you to be so well composed through that disagreeable moment. Sorry you had to deal with this scenario. Really ruins an evening! Now go drive your vette and shake it off.
Glad to hear your car wasn't damaged. These type of people make me sick! IT"S ALL ABOUT ME!!!!! What a sad state the world of parenting is in. If I wanted that kind of noise, etc. I would have some of my own. That's what I tell them when they totally disrespect everyone around them. People don't go out and pay for a great meal in a great resturant to be put to this abuse. CONTROL YOUR CHILDREN! RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE PERIOD..

Like many others here, I felt my face getting flushed when I read your story. The behavior of that entire family was totally unacceptable. You should get some type of C5 forum humanitarian award.

Can't you see what's happening, it's passed on through generations. These kids will grow up idiots because of their bad parents, then eventually become parents themselves and raise more idiot kids.

Now having said that, I think a large majority of how children turn out depends on rearing by the parents but some kids have the smarts to only take the good characteristics from their parents, it's very rare though.

I hope those little Ba$*@rd$ didn't scratch up your car, and if they did, I hope you took down their parents license plate and hold them accountable. These parents need to discipline their kids, if it's ok to play around cars, whats to keep them from playing in traffic?

I see two issues here. First the parents have no respect for other's property and are obviously not "car" people and second, they are not very good parents and teaching their children that it is ok to do as they please. I would have gone off big time and given those parents something to remember but that's me. I'm not suggesting that you should do this. You obviously have a lot of willpower.

Folks - I really worry for our country and our way of living. This is the mass majority of our country as I see it now. These are the "A" holes who think that there way of life is owed to them. I hate to say it, its the same group that will put Obama in office too!!!! Sorry for the quick political thing, but it seems to go hand in hand with the post!

Don't worry all, those parents will get all the payback they deserve when their kids get older. Take that to the bank.

I have 5, count 'em, 5 Grandkids and I have to constantly tell them not to be playing around my cars.
Similar story, different outcome:
The wife and I were at the Vette's In The Valley last year. Nice event, small but growing each year. I come out of an antique shop to see my wife talking to a boy (about 12ish). As he walked around my Vette his hands never let go of the car and his face was pressed against the glass with every step. He turned to me and said, "boy, I wish I could have a car like this someday." I could tell by his motor skills and the way he spoke he had some developmental disiability. About the time he finished saying that to me his father yelled at him to "get away from that car." I walked over with him to his father and told him that by staying in school and hard work he could one day have his dream. The boy's father's expression went from anger to saddness in a heart beat. I looked at him and said anything's possible. I work in a factory and it took me 20 years to get my first Vette. His father thanked me and my wife and I left. When I got back to the hotel I sprayed and wiped down the Vette....smiled every minute of it.
