I have 5, count 'em, 5 Grandkids and I have to constantly tell them not to be playing around my cars.
Similar story, different outcome:
The wife and I were at the Vette's In The Valley last year. Nice event, small but growing each year. I come out of an antique shop to see my wife talking to a boy (about 12ish). As he walked around my Vette his hands never let go of the car and his face was pressed against the glass with every step. He turned to me and said, "boy, I wish I could have a car like this someday." I could tell by his motor skills and the way he spoke he had some developmental disiability. About the time he finished saying that to me his father yelled at him to "get away from that car." I walked over with him to his father and told him that by staying in school and hard work he could one day have his dream. The boy's father's expression went from anger to saddness in a heart beat. I looked at him and said anything's possible. I work in a factory and it took me 20 years to get my first Vette. His father thanked me and my wife and I left. When I got back to the hotel I sprayed and wiped down the Vette....smiled every minute of it.
Andy, you're are a true gentleman. The world needs several billion more like you!
Man I feel so sorry for you, I INTIMATELY KNOW YOUR FEELING. I am a HS teacher, and one of the good guys. I give tons to the kids in help and encouragement, this week I WAS SPAT ON BY A STUDENT.
Don't get me wrong, there are MANY, MANY GOOD KIDS. (believe it or not even the kid that spat on me had a stupid moment, and I forgive him) What I do see, is kids with ACUTE APATHY and disrespect, and it all stems from THE PARENTS. Today's parents in many instances can't say no, and be parents. They in turn give their kids everything, and leave us with the monsters. Only 68% of all kids graduate HS now, can you figure out why? Those parents and those ill behaved children are the future, trust me, it's getting worse. After much thought, I've decided to leave teaching at the end of this year. I can't change it, only the parents can, it's just taking too much of a toll on me. Sorry man, needed to vent,
John
Hey John...Hope I get the chance to shake your hand someday....As a cop entering my 30th year on the job Ive seen everything you've seen...and then some....I know EXACTLY where you are coming from...Id love to pull the plug right now, but I have 5 years to go to reach minimum retirement (at age 55)....The Colorado State Penetentiary is in my hometown (Canon City, Co )....Ive been doing this job so long that Ive seen second generation criminals end up in the institution from my jurisdiction.......The Dept of Social Services (DSS) on the otherhand has taken discipline completely out of the hands of parents that try to do the right thing.....Dont get me wrong...There are child abuse cases that need intervention....but quite often DSS sticks their nose where it doesnt belong...and these kids know it!!!....Funny, many DSS caseworkers request ANY officer but me..cuz I dont often buy their BS!!!

I would have gotten their license number, called the cops, and took them to court if there was any damage.
I have a 17yo and she would never treat other peoples property like that, she was taught better.
people like that don't respect their own stuff, lowlifes beqat lowlifes unfortunately. feel sorry for the kids for having idiots for parents....one can only hope they turn out somewhat ok.
Once a kid about 10 was kicking my seatback on an aircraft and after about 5 minutes I turned around and ask parent to tell him to stop, she didn't so after another minute I turned around and told the kid in a stern but gruff tone that if he didn't quit kicking the seat I was going to rip his head off ... he stopped and had a look of fear in his eyes...mom just stared at me with open mouth...I had a peaceful flight

I don't know why this is such a big deal. it's only a car...
Can't control your unruly little animals either, huh... ...another unqualified parent. Just a guess. Either way, flame bait has been graciously returned.

Unfortunately there wouldnt be much the cops could do, other than to document any damage done to his car for use at a civil proceeding later......In most states, the minumum age to commit a criminal offense is 10 years of age....Sounds like these imps were much younger....You'd have to take the parents to see Judge Wapner (civil court)....Fortunately, parents can be held financially accountable for ANY damage their child does from birth until he/she turns 18.....I once nabbed a couple teens that broke over $16K worth of car and business windows one night because they were "bored".......Believe me, their parents were NOT happy campers!!!I dont know if they were more pissed at their kids...or ME for catching them!!!

I taught my little ones from early on to respect property (especially cars). I often went to car shows and taught them to look without touching and more importantly to have their hands in their pockets so I would know where their hands were. I got a lot of compliments about how my kids respected others property when we were out.
My kids are now 25,25, and 23. They each have a love affair with the automobile. My son graduated from a private school with an autobody/paint background and is a mechanic. He too has his own collection of cars already.
I too especially like taking a kid aside when at a car show that shows interest and respect for a car. I'll tell them about some of the features of the car as their parents are also listening but it is clear I'm talking to the little ones. I even have had some be able to sit in the drivers seat while their parents take the kids pictures. I remind them that they can only do something like this if it is o.k. with Mom and Dad AND the owner of the car. Many times, I've had the owners thank me so much by creating memories and newfound respect with their children.
There are some good kids out there, praise the good ones!!!
There are times that birth control should be retrocactive , clear back to the parents. In fact, it isn't the kid's fault, it's the fault of irresponsible parents.

There is a guy in our crew who has 2 of the most well behaved kids I have ever met. They have been out at the car shows and look but dont touch.
Theres always the ones who think they need to touch everything or even adults who go by and brush up against the cars as you cringe thinking of the pending scratch mark. Dont forget the ones in your own crew who like to lean up against the car with the scratchy rivets in their pants.

Are you kidding me My kid would wish she had never been born if I EVER heard something like that about her...Where the hell are parents these days? They teach their kids anger, disrespect and to care about nothing but themselves and the almighty dollar (which is obviously not worth what it used to be). I'm sorry to read that and hope that you are ok but remember the old saying when thinking about those inconsiderate kids---what goes around comes around. Some day THEY will need help and I hope that they receive all that they have given

My knees are getting better, thanks. Lets hope that they do not have kids or if they do they do not turn out as rude as they are. I can only hope they get a taste of the way they acted

That was a great story but as you know there is a huge difference between a child being appreciative and a child running amuk and not caring what they may be doing to someone elses property. And notice the difference in the parenting? This child was amazed and appreciative of your car and the father was a good but a bit too stern parent (for the fact that you mentioned the child had a development issue but at least he cared at all) where as the other kids were just animals with no concern for others---just like their parents. You would think that parents could find a happy medium somewhere. It was very nice of you to ease the father and his son. All too many times people do not pay attention and do not notice the subtle differences in some of our "challenged" people. You have been smiled upon

Someday Deb they will. I have faith in that. When they are paying fines to cover the damages their child has caused or sitting in a jail to visit them--they will actually wonder what they did wrong--pathetic if you ask me. I am glad you are feeling better. I hope that you never have to endure anything like that again but god forbid it does happen--I hope he has enough compassion to have a reliable person close by to assist you
That is just so wrong, I only have one son now 23 but he was raised right and to respect other people and their property. While I dont believe in violence around children I'm afraid I would have done some boot body work on the mini van as it would have been a good lesson to all. Some people just dont think or in some cases just dont know any better so you have to show the way.

OMG that is absolutley sickening. I have seen more and more and more selfish and disrepectful people anymore that it is just getting out of control.
Your story made me sick and mad as hell at the same time...

These stories are extremely horrible, young people have no respect anymore and also true that it all falls in the hand of how they were brought up by their parents. I am fuming at your stories and do have to say that you have more patients than i do because i would have come unglued with the two kids parents for sitting on my vet.
