THanks Tim !
Yes I directed Matt your way 6 months ago... ish...
I would be down for a RED-WHITE-BLUE LED photo shoot...
Okay time to do my HVAC with new LED'S so I went to this site to get the led's http://www.oznium.com/led and of coarse they are out of stock on the blue and red led's I want where else can I get these and is it really this easy to change and fix as I want all the lights to be blue and on the dials I want red for the hot side.

Those aren't the best leds to use for this anyway. Go to www.sparkfun.com and search for their basic blue and red 5mm leds. The ones with the diffused lenses, not the clear ones.

They are plenty bright and have a wide light dispersion angle. You don't need to file off the tips of these to get the right effect like you do to the oznium ones. Just add a resistor and solder them in as is. They look great. Other colors available too.
I went with reds for all the switches and bright white for all illumination locations. I do love the red. It is very vibrant. I'll have to look back at my emailed receipt to remember which bulbs they are, but they were a newer variety. Absolutely tiny head on them with great output.
The white... I may keep the white festoons in the mirror, but I believe I am going to swap the foot wells and trunk lights over to red to be more subdued.
QUESTION -- the tiny bulb in my non-electrochromatic mirror which illuminates the shifter area when all other lights are off -- A) is that bulb easily replaced? and B) is there a very DIM red light, even a non-LED, which I can use there in place of it's yellow/orange tinge? All I would want is to keep it's same low level output, but replace the color with red.
I can only speak for the non electrochromatic version (personally, I hate those auto dimmers.... I want instant on and all or nothing with the dimming) but all you have to do is gently pry the plastic cover off and toss new festoons in for each side.
If you're trying to get the lights to all match, I would suggest using the same distributor and the same type or grade of light as often as possible.
I went with AutoLumination as one of the suggested retailers here and am very happy. I also chose some replacement reverse lights which are really bright. If I used the Adjure plate they would be much brighter, but I feel the open reflector look back there does not suit my taste for the car. Oddly, I am all for the clear side markers on the nose and put those in. Go figure.
The "Helper" LED that illuminates the shifter area is embedded inside the mirror housing and can only be accessed after you pry off the trim ring around the front of the mirror... I have about a 50/50 success rate on getting it pried off without damaging or marring the surface of the mirror...
After you get the mirror opened up its a simple swap. if you want dim search for the lowest mcd rated LED in the color of your choice...
Tusc - I went all Red also and really like it, although I did install a switched LED strip in my center console lid in case I REALLY did have to read something at night! Try and get some nice shots of your lighting and post up!
Just ordered LED foot well light strips in Blue for my Electron Metallic Blue vette. I have Bright Blue bulbs now, but the fitment was never really all there. I ll Give feedback when i get them!

Sounds good! Are you going to splice into the OEM harness or use 194 socket adaptors??
So why can't you just remove the blue condoms off the door switch bulbs? Wouldn't that increase the light output? In my old age I find the light a little dim from them.
Years ago I replaced my bulbs in the HVAC unit, before I knew about this awesome site with all the how to's. I just used replacement incandescent bulbs from Radio Shack.
Now I would use the LEDs of course. Never thought of that at the time. I do have a spare I picked while at Carlisle that needs new lighting. Maybe I'll play with it.
You can remove the blue silicone bulb covers if you want a sickly yellow light. Also the Blue film embedded in the HVAC, SVC area of the Radio and Non-HUD Dimmer switch can not easily be removed so the lighting wouldn't be consistent at all.
The Blue knocks out the yellow cast found in incandescent bulbs to make them look more white... Much like a G.E. Reveal bulb that has that blue coating on it.

Thank you sir
Makes sense.
I've ordered a whack of LEDs and resistors and will start on the mods.
Haven't decided yet on using white or red for the switches. My car is torch red so either one would work.
Love the soft green tho on my wife's Buick gauges and switches but that wouldn't match I guess. (Christmas tree?)
I'll follow the written directions so nothing gets damaged!
