I ordered the super white lights which is a different color than the warm incandescent bulbs they replaced. This color of light reacts differently with the filters for each of the indicators and projects a different color than before.

The red lights are almost fushcia now. The yellow lights are now a fluorescent, almost neon yellow. The greens have gone a little more toward teal. The blues, however, for high beam and MPH/KMH indicators are beautiful.

The increased light intensity has caused some spillover into the 1-4 shift and MIL indicators. They're not lit, they're just receiving a slight glow from the nearby MPH indicator.

My suggestion: Either stick with incandescent or get warm white LED's to avoid the weird discoloration of your indicators. I may or may not be considering swapping for warm white, but I'm also lazy and don't feel like pulling the cluster back out just for some bulbs.

As for the speaker, that's your ignition/door chime.
I just put LEDs in the whole interior, including the guage cluster warning lights. I used red LEDs for the 'check guages' 'ABS' lights, yellow LEDs for check engine, security light, green for indicators, blue for high beam. Warning lights are definitely brighter and more crisp, but to be honest its not really that noticable. Reason I did it is so I don't have to worry about the bulbs blowing again. Thanks heaps for posting pics of the polarity, saved me heaps of time.

For the rest of the interior, i used a warm white LEDs. Really like the look with the exception of the dimmer and hud dimmer switches. The colour shows up quite different and looks a bit off. Also the LED on the active handling button doesnt show through very well and is noticably duller than the rest.

Also remember you loose the dimming feature with LEDs. Not the end of the world, but something to keep in mind.

Another point to keep in mind is the stock bulbs in the DIC buttons and door buttons have a blue plastic film around them, giving the almost blue look. These seem to be discontinued and cant be found anywhere. So when they finally blow (and they will) you'l have to either do LED mod, or buy the normal bulbs which will make the DIC buttons look much more yellow then they did from the factory. I tried all the types of bulbs and LEDS I could find, and decided to settle on a warm white LED colour.

I used all white but the dimmer backlights come out blue. Same with the HVAC. What's the best way to make the colour consistant?

I believe you have to use warm white LEDs in the HVAC unit if you want white lights. Cool white LEDs come out looking blueish.

I thought that's what I used. Theres a blue film in the hvac buttons so I would suspect it would still come through as blue even if they aren't cool white.

I think I might switch them out to ice blue or blue leds to get a more consistant colour match.

Something to keep in mind for anyone looking at doing this yourself.

There are some options out there for the IPC but nothing that really looks stock with a different color, at least until enough pre-orders are made for the customizable Speedhut gauges http://www.speedhut.com/15orders_el_...ber=104&bhcp=1

OK here is a rundown of various parts and options you’ll need to change your color. These parts are tried and true BUT not written in stone of course. The Type 194 and 212 Festoons listed are what I ended up using, there are many more options out there. The NEO Wedge Type A and B are a direct replacement with a resistor built into the base of the LED. Oznium has begun selling them as well, http://www.oznium.com/corvette-c5-led for $2.49

If you’re doing Red you can replace the stock blue bulb covers with Red ones. Go to http://www.mcmaster.com/

In the Find Products window (upper left) type in 16925K11 you want the G Type T1 Dia. 1/8”, Height 10/64”, OD 5/32” $3.79 for 10. Click the part number and then you can choose your color and quantity.

Switches (Doors, Fog/Trunk, DIC and Traction/Selective Ride Control)
13* ea. – NEO WEDGE Type B bulbs, 10mm (3/8”) diameter $2.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/74.htm
*Note: If you are optioned with Selective ride control add one NEO Wedge

Dimmer/HUD
4* ea. - NEO WEDGE Type A, 8mm (5/16") diameter $2.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/74.htm
*Note: If you do not have HUD subtract THREE. These are the closest fit but the mounting hole will still need filed out just a tad. Some HUD switch packs supposedly have a total of THREE bulbs.

Footwells and Cargo Area
4 ea. – 194 Matrix Super Star bulbs,. 10mm diameter x 26mm overall $7.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/194.htm

Map Lights
Non Electrochromatic

2 ea. – 212 Festoon 2 LED bulbs, 10mm wide x 44mm overall length. $9.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm
Electrochromatic
12 ea. 5mm LEDs
http://www.oznium.com/led
*Note: For 2000s check your Map lights to see if you have the LED array or Festoon bulbs, I believe there may have been a cross over early in 2000.

Automatic Gear Indicator (PRNDL)
1 ea. – 194 Matrix Super Star bulbs,. 10mm diameter x 26mm overall $7.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/194.htm

HVAC (Dual Climate) Controller (Leaving stock Orange LEDs in)
14 ea. - 5mm LED's with XXX* Ohm resistors,
http://www.oznium.com/led
OR
14 ea – NEO WEDGE Type B bulbs, (removed from bases) 10mm (3/8”) diameter $2.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/74.htm

Radio/CD Player (Leaving stock Red LED in)
10 ea. - 5mm LED's with XXX* Ohm resistors,
http://www.oznium.com/led
OR
10 ea - NEO WEDGE Type B bulbs, (removed from bases) 10mm (3/8”) diameter $2.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/74.htm

Under Hood
1 ea. – Super Star Festoon Dome Bulb: White. 10mm wide x 44mm overall $9.99 ea.
http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm
UPDATE: The 1997s take a 212-2 Festoon and the 1998 - 2004s use a Type 561 rigid loop bulb. We think the 44mm should work fine in both. See Post #24 by ljthe2nd
**Note – 470 Ohm = Blue, White, Green, Aqua & Pink
560 Ohm – Red, Orange & Yellow

The amber lights on the head and radio are already LEDs.
The multi color LEDs won't work.

We just change them out with 3mm discreet leds. We use 3mm blue for the a/c, green for the cold air and red for the defrost. No need for resistors since they are already leds.

Hello RJ1AZ,

Is this a mod that replaces the NEO wedge bulbs shown in this post (click here)?

First, I bought a spare switch because taking one apart involves cutting it open along the glued seam. Having a spare always makes me feel better about ripping things apart.

After getting it apart, it's obvious why the lighting is so dim. The light has to go into the buttons from an angle and also has to make it through the half inch thick silicone rubber they're made out of.

I decided my best bet was to handle it just like the traction control button and embed the LED's into the rubber of the button. I used two Oznium wedge LED's that I removed from their bases.

Attachment 48178760

A little extra wire soldered onto the leads, some heat shrink tubing to protect against shorting, and then solder the wires to the appropriate pad on the back of the circuit board (top is + if I remember right).

It's starting to come together...

Are their any how tos of replacing the 12 LEDs in the dimming rear view mirror? I found some links but they we're old and broken.
Is it as simple as removing the mirror from the vehicle, carefully popping the mirror open to gain access to the circuit boards and then removing old LEDs and soldering in the new ones?

Default C5 radio LEDs

Doing a full interior LED upgrade. I’ve got everything done but my radio. I installed about half the LEDs then plugged in the radio to test them, they worked, went back in, installed the rest of the LEDs and now none of them work. Radio works, screen works. No LED light. Has anyone encountered and solved this? I really don’t want to re install all of the stock bulbs. Thanks I’m advance!
