I went with a vert since its only a DD when the weather is good (plus gets better mileage than my truck...). Both of them require work to go open-air driving. With tops down you have nearly no carrying ability in both, but with ther vert top up you are still short on space. One thing that made it easier for me to pick the vert was the noisy tops I heard on coupes. Drive a few before you pick is all I can say.
I have a 2k vert and love it. If I had to worry about taking the roof out and dropiing it or scratching it I would not use it. I see lots coops with the tops in all the time. most of the verts are topless down here.
They are heavy and hard to handle by your self in my opinion. 30sec and my top is down and im gone.

just my 2C.
Once again, thanks for all the great information. It is really appreciated.
This is one of the things I was thinking about in the Coupe vs. Vert debate. I know the t-tops in the F-bodies I had were relatively easy to pop out, but to position in the back and make sure you don't scratch them and then put back in is also a concern I had with the stowage of the Coupe top, too.
I like the idea of just being able to drop the top and go.
Also, a couple have said they don't care for the lines of the Vert with the top up. I actually do like it, but then again my favorite C5 body style is the ZO6/FRC - from an appearance stand point. And the Vert is close in body line to the FRC, in my opinion.
Get the vert! Because when one pulls up beside you....Top down and all you WILL wish you had one.
i had the same debate bet. a coupe and a vert for my DD and i was going to get the coupe, the reason was,i already have a vert (72)the funny thing is that it was the same reason why i got the c5 vert(way cooler in my opinion)
I have a coupe and it's nice. Next time it's a convertible for me. Not vert though I hate that dopey nickname. It's like calling a transmission a trany. Blah..
Go with the 'vert. If you liked to ride your scoot you'll love the Vette with the top down. I rarely ever have mine up. I've had coupes before and 99% of the time I didn't bother taking the top off.
This is my 3rd Vette and I started with a FRC and then a coupe with the removable top, now I have the Vert.
My wife had several verts, camaros, mustangs, and her BMW and I hated them all. After driving the Convertible Vette; I wish I had got the vert in the beginning I would not buy another Vette that was not a vert or that I could not make a vert ASAP!
There was a point a while back that I had a '67 Imapala convertible that was my daily driver. Top was in good shape, motor and tranny were good (327/Powerglide), the heat worked, as did the 8-track player, and interior was in great shape, but the car was a basket case other than that. But I would put the top down on that thing every chance I would get. Shoot, even had it down a few times in the middle of winter here in Iowa. Then again I was 12 years younger and we thought it was fun at the time.
I think the convertible will be the way to go. Now to find some around to actually get to drive. Here are some of the options I would like to have:
1) 6-speed
2) HUD
3) Z51
4) stock or bolt-on modifications only (unless professionally installed and tuned for more major modifications: heads, cam, supercharger, etc)
5) Yellow, blue, or dark silver/gray and preferably with black top and interior
Seems to me that you are leaning towards a vert, a Corvette convertible on a warm summer night is the best driving experiance you can have. These cars are solid on the road but do require alittle extra care for the fabric top which is not a big issue. I drive my vert the entire summer at the Jersey shore and cover the car at night.Buy what you really like and never look back.
Another vote for the roadster. also, get a manual transmission while you are at it. The manual transmission roadsters hold their value a little better than similar hardtop automatics. That right there should give it away. They are more desirable.

Now this kind of input gets me a little excited. I love summer nights after the sun goes down. I miss cruising with the tops off the F-bodies or on the bike. Driving out around the lake and enjoying the stars.
Yeah, I think the convertible will be the way to go! Like I said, if I want a roof over my head when I drive I can take the Marauder out. And once it gets supercharged it will run with a Corvette anyway.
vert all the way, but I live in charlotte, nc where the weather vertible 10 months out of the year. I had to do some looking but vert z51's are out there
This is kind of what I was thinking based on what I would use the car for. And I will never forget the WAVE.
Any thoughts on how hard a C5 Z51 Vert will be to come by?
Not very hard. Just look on fleebay, local paper, there may even be a local corvette dealer that specializes is vettes. That's were I bought mine. They have a web site www.corvettesofhouston.com They are good to deal with. Good luck with your search. I love my vert and I placed 2nd at a car show recently with her.
Had both (my first Vette was a mag red vert) and enjoy(ed) both. Both have their advantages and "disadvantages". Based on reading your posts and the way you intend to use the car, I would recommend you get the vert. Verts are PITA at times if you use them as daily drivers (not that you can't, there are just days that you don't want to) but as a weekend/every once in a while driver, the Vert is perfect for you.
I had a 3rd and 4th gen f-bod, both with t-tops. The roof in a c5 coupe is no more difficult to take out or put in than the t-top. The frame is magnesium and designed to be removed and installed by one person. The latches are similar to the vert latches, it's less than a minute operation to remove or install the coupe top.
I agree with the suggestion that you should drive both before buying. I went with a coupe because I love the lines, wanted the extra luggage space, like the added security (theft and accident), enjoy the open roof experience with the top off.
You can't go wrong with either.
