Now I am rather pleased that I just picked up my new Harley in January. Sold one about 4 years ago when I bought the Vette. Now I have choices! Harley is rated at 53 MPG on the highway and 30 something in the city.
When it hit's $5.00 a gallon I'm putting my top down and filling the car with dirt and planting some nice Petunia's in it and parking it in front of my house where I can enjoy looking at it.
1) With the UK paying 10.00 per gallon ( est ) you have to take into consideration that their pay coincides with the cost of living as well. I know the guys in the UK doing what I do at my level are making approx 30+% more then me. Granted our gas would have to hit about 6 bucks a gallon for us to be close to equal but it is not quite ( though it's still bad ) as bad as one would think.
1A) Their driving distances are not as far as our ( I would assume ). When I visited The Netherlands last year a buddy and me drove just under 2 hours and we were at the border of Germany. For me here in Los Angeles my commute from home to work is 1 to 1.5 hour average.
Hey, I could be way off. Only my opinion
As far as these prices are concerned there is something we can do about it but not many are interested in the solution. Stop buying trucks and suv's or any vehicle that get's under 20 mpg ( Unless you are in a snow state or you need one for your livelyhood ). We can definately do without them in Southern California. Ride a bike more. Carpool. Cut down on recreational driving. Vote for the " GREEN " candidates. I am sure there are a ton more things I am not thinking of but I am sure you get the point. There are things we will just not do without and for that reason we have to pay.
That's partially due to the fact that they are an exporter of oil. And I would think worse case scenerio, if the price has nearly doubled in the past year, as ours has, then they are paying a wopping 20 cents a gallon. Maybe I should just move to Canada or Venezula? Maybe then I could afford to fill up my vette!?
Forget about coming to Canada for the cheap gas... Our gov't is screwing us as well. Today is 1.30/L roughly $4.90/ gallon. Thats for regular add another 60 cents for high test...
Although I would never post a question like this without a flamesuit on normally, in light of this post, I have to wonder why so many of you are still using high octane gas? If you are so concerned about high prices, why not switch to 87 as it says you can on page 5-4 in the owner's manual? I have been using it for the past six months and notice no difference (50/50 town and highway). With twenty-seven cents difference per gallon in price, every thirteen to fifteen or so times you fill up, you'll get the equivalent of a free tankful. It may not sound like much at first glance, but hey, if your station offered you a free tankful of gas periodically, would you take it?
Yeah, but if someone is getting screwed buying something they don't need or can easily substitute for a reasonable price then, IMO, they fully deserve to be screwed.
Now, if that isnt f****ed up, I don't know what is!?
when i was there in 2003 is was anywhere from free to .13 cents a gallon and in kuwait i was paying 7-9 dallors to fill my suburban, and it was real cool to see a 18 year old kuwaiti girl pulling up in a new lambo
I just filled up my vette yesterday $3.70 gal. here in S. New Mexico
Have to fill up my Ford F250 powerstroke PU in the morning $4.11 gal
This is BS something has to be done!
