Hi ZeroToSixty -
I could rattle off several reasons that you apparently are lucky enough to have never considered - knees, legs, backs for instance.....
Many people have ailments that make shifting manually painful or otherwise not possible.
In the case of our 99 coupe, that car was for my wife, and she wanted an automatic. She does not like to shift. That is her prerogative and since it is her car, she is the boss.
I prefer to drink Jack Daniels on ice, no mixers, no beer, no fruity drinks with umbrella's....It does not bother me that the world does not fall into line behind my choice.
Ultimately, the world is interesting because the people in it are unique.

OK the guy from San Fran and those owners with injuries get a pass..................hills and traffic do suck in a manual, and I know the deal with constant pain from an injury.
I will give you that.
Anyone that finds this subject tiring or been there, done that,........move on. Change the channel.
I suppose choice is the ultimate luxury.
I always equated a manual transmission with the best sports cars and have a tough time understanding why someone given the "choice" would pick one over the other. Black or white,.....vanilla or chocolate.
Not a fan of vanilla,.........but the truth is, it continues to be the most popular flavor.

You hand out free passes? Who the hell are you? Ever drive a F1 Ferrari? Why don't you go register with Ferrari Chat and bust their b@lls about that.

I had an automatic in a 98 and didn't like it. I found I couldn't use the throttle to help get around a tight cloverleaf, I didn't like the feel unless I pulled it down a range or two.
Notice that "I" didn't like it, someone else may not care.
I then bought myself a 01 coupe with a 6 speed. I really enjoy going up through the gears (Borla). Just love the sound, vibrations and everything that goes with it. The car just seems more responsive. Coming down the highway at 80mph, off-ramp coming up, slip it from 6th to 5th, listen to the exhaust as the engine pulls you down, pull it into 4th as you get into the ramp, maybe a bit of throttle to help it around, again, the sound and response to the throttle. Love it!!!!
I live in the sticks, hardly ever see city traffic. It's not a daily driver, more a week-end warrior. If I had to drive it everyday in stop and go rush hour traffic, I'd probably go automatic.
Main thing, to each his own .... enjoy what you have!!!

haha wow. sad thread.
i have an A4 because I WANTED one? same reason I wanted a millenium yellow vette? same reason I wanted a vette over a different car?
PERSONAL PREFERENCE.
A vette is a vette to me, all transmission arguments aside. Same car when all is said and done. An automatic just made more sense to me as a daily driver and all the multitasking I do while driving

That hole your digging is about to collapse on you. Transmissions have nothing to do with gays. Some of oppinions maybe should be kept to yourself. Morality has nothing to do with cars. Bad example o your part.

To each there own. There's a lot of good reasons to buy an A4. I've seen a couple of you mention that age could be one of them. Well in my case, I disagree on that one. I just turned 60 and drive an M6. When I started looking, it was at the top of the list of "must haves". Interesting however that when I was in my 20's, I had 2 C3's and both were auto's.
Maybe someday I'll conform to the demographic. NOT!

You missed the point,........it has nothing to do with being gay or straight,............it has to do with the absence of right and wrong (manual or auto). Morality has nothing to do with it,.......and if any gay members are offended,......I sincerely apologize.

I have tried **** Creek - good stuff. I have not had Blanton's.
I have had JD Single Barrel, but I prefer Gentleman Jack - and being a Squire since 1982, I am a devout follower.....
