$3.99 a gallon here - price has jumped 20 cents in the last week.
Shoot fire, my gas jumped from 4.00 to 4.29 overnight yesterday. I about choked. I have been paying 66.00 plus for almost 2 months now today it will be close to 80. We only get 89 as the high octane too.

Hell you're lucky,,,It will do that over night here!!Some times they don't even wait for over night..you drive by going,, and when you're going back it's gone up. It DROPPED 1 cent the other day,,That evening it went UP 17 cents after the news reported oil up so prices will jump. The media is big oils PR lackie!!
There is no end in sight. My prediction for this summer....
Gas will be between $4.75 and $5.00 per gallon here in California
I am waiting for the US Government to wake up and utilize the 300 years of Shale Oil reserves that are right here in the USA. (We have so much of it, we could actually export). At the current prices, we have more than past the break-even point on the extraction of shale oil.
Diesel SHOULD be cheaper than regular unleaded.....It costs less to refine diesel than gasoline....but in a day when everyone and his brother drive a diesel truck the oil companies are gonna jump on the chance to make big $$ from it....I truly dont know how the trucking industry is doing it.....We ALL depend on the trucking industry in one form or another....Sooner or later we'll ALL feel the crunch...and it wont be at the gas pump...
This is what I'm worried about. The price consumers pay at the pump is small fries compared to the trucking industry. Almost everything in the US is transported at one point or another via trucks, and the cost of gas has to be factored into the cost of the product. I don't understand why we haven't seen consumer goods prices go up double or more to account for this. Distribution is a fairly large cost. I wonder how the trucking industry is managing to avoid passing this on in every product that we buy?
The closer we get to Memorial Day the faster it goes up!
I burn about 40 to 50 gallons a month. At $4 a gallon it's about $200 a month. My solution was to cancel cable and go to free digital over the air TV. It saves about $60 a month. Hardly what I'd call a sacrifice.
I feel truly sorry for people that otherwise live modestly, are car pooling or taking public transportation and still can't afford gas.
With gas at $4 a gallon I still cannot find anyone in my neighborhood to car pool with and at least a half dozen people work at the same place I do! You'd think one of my next door neighbors would like to save some money on gas.
What gives? Maybe gas is still too cheap?
It seems like most people are complaining about it, but not doing anything about it. I don't know many people that are modifying their lifestyle by buying a more efficient car, car pooling, or taking public transportation. I've also noticed that most people are still doing about 10 mph over the speed limit. Driving 55 or 60 mph instead of 65 or 70 mph is free and saves a lot of gas.

Having done massive amounts of research on the subject, there is a reason we're not currently utilizing it. I could give more technical details but bottom line is it takes more energy to put into it then you get out. A lot more.
I filled up last night at a BP station. As I was watching the numbers change I did the math in my had and thought, that's too cheap. I looked down to see that they had mis-set the pump and I only paid 3.09/gal. The clerk said the guy was on his way back to reset it and I just got lucky.
This thread will need to be updated hourly.
Forget 20 years ago. I heard the other day gas was $1.20/gal when GW took office.
Wanna add insult to injury, in iraq they charge our military 3 to 4 bucks a gallon while the locals pay about .30cents per gallon. And we are supposedly fighting for them.
