I filled up last night at a BP station. As I was watching the numbers change I did the math in my had and thought, that's too cheap. I looked down to see that they had mis-set the pump and I only paid 3.09/gal. The clerk said the guy was on his way back to reset it and I just got lucky.
Reminds me of my first job pumping gas back in the 70s....When gas went over $1 a gallon the pumps couldnt go that high, 99.9 was their limit....so we rolled the price at the pump back to 50 cents a gallon for example, when it was $1 a gallon, 55 cents for $1.10 a gallon and so on....but we would charge double the $$ amount the pump read....Talk about some pissed off people....Even though the pump showed they had 20 gallons (at $1 a gallon) they insisted they should only have to pay $10, cuz that's what the pump said....It got to where the employees would even pump the gas at the self serve island to try to make thing easier...HUGE signs on every pump said "price shown is HALF the total amount due".....We finally got modern digital pumps that would go over 99.9 which made things a lot easier....Funny, I remember people bitching about the price of gas when it hit 50 cents a gallon!!!

I cant remember how much it is here in oklahoma city. I have not had to worry yet because with my job im always on call so I get paid .34 cent a mile even on days Im not going to check stores. So as long as its not over $6.00 I will be ok. Thats about the only thing I like about always being on call.

I am waiting for the US Government to wake up and utilize the 300 years of Shale Oil reserves that are right here in the USA. (We have so much of it, we could actually export). At the current prices, we have more than past the break-even point on the extraction of shale oil.

"Hell", they ride goats or donkeys while we drive Corvettes! I'll keep on being an American thank you!

Thing is, we suck it up and pay it....but there are MANY, MANY people out there that simply cant afford it...They have to make a choice.... put gas in their tanks or feed their kids....Many MUST drive to earn an income...
Id like to know how many of you have gotten pay raises that keep pace with the rising cost of gasoline....I know I certainly havent...
Im also waiting for the day the trucking industry tells America to F*CK OFF and leaves their rigs parked at truck stops!!!

It is sad and unfortunate but that is one of the most important statements that could be made at this time in history. With the price of oil/gas/food/utilities sky rocketing, who has gotten pay raises to keep up with this pace, like you, neither have I. What's that saying:

ok, you get paid 34 cents a mile and you still don't know how much gas is? You have to put gas in a car sometime and you don't look at the price.... lol
I really want to go to Alaska and kill off everything that is keeping us from pumping the oil!!
Seriously though I wish it were like the early 90's again, I used to pump gas for my mom, we had a huge FULL size chevy Van. It took $20 to fill that thing up!!

Reminds me of a call I had years ago....A woman pulled into a KwikStop to fill up her Chevy van and use the bathroom....She was about to have an "accident" so to speak, she stuck the nozzle in and clicked it on, then hurried into the store to use the bathroom...Unbeknownst to her, her hubby had pulled the secondary tank the day before to have a leak in it repaired...Of course that was the tank she put the nozzle in.....She was in such a hurry to use the bathroom she apparently didnt notice the gas pumping right out onto the ground....It had pumped well over $20 before another motorist pulled in for gas and noticed it and shut the pump off...We had to evacuate the area and call out the fire department and HazMat team....
Thing is, if that were to happen with todays gas prices, she'd have pumped $100 worth in that same time frame

Indeed.....but I would venture to say nobody that drives a Corvette is feeling the "pinch" like some of the more unfortunate folks in our country....Single moms, people on fixed incomes, folks earning minimum or near minimum wage, etc, that can barely afford a decent vehicle, let alone a nice Corvette, trying to keep their head above water in a sinking ship....THOSE are the folks I feel for.....and NO, Im not talking about the welfare moochers, Im talking about the everyday Joe (or Mary) that's doing his or her very best to make it, but keeps getting trampled...

I did the math a long time ago, As long as gas is $6.00 a gallon or lower I still make money, I drive my vette 2-3 times each week and my monte carlo the rest, I always put 91 in my baby but not always in the monte. I did pay $3.79 yesterday for 87 in the monte. I dont pay too much attention when filling the vette, just pump and pay. My expense checks will run $250 -$300 each week. That keeps me smiling, now when I had my avalanche, I always looked for the cheapest crap i could buy.
i usually fill her up with new gas before she hits past half a tank. This time I might just take her almost down to the 1/4 mark when I fill her up. Makes gassing up less painful.
That's been my routine and now going to the top off at 3/4 mark.
Thanks for all the info from around the country and the world. I see myself driving my 11 year old civic a lot more. Only problem, I keep on thinking I'm driving my vette and continue to wave and try to put the pedal to the metal.
