I really wanted Yellow, but after months of looking, all the Yellow ones were either high miles, abused, or way out of line in price..private sellers, found a super clean, garage queen, 8k miles, and a good price,...Black, Light Oak Top and interior..It's a B#$%h to keep clean..But it sure is pretty
Well for me color was not a strong deciding factor as much as the options I wanted. Auto, Targa, HUD, CD, sport seats, yadda yadda yadda. I got every option available on my car except the 12disk changer and got the car in yellow. As far as color, I just narrowed it down to colors that I would NOT like to have. Yellow, obviously, was one of the ones I liked.

I like the various versions of silver. It hides dirt relatively well (especially compared to the darker colors) and stays a little cooler.
If mine wasn't a DD then maybe I'd think differently but I have owned black and other dark colors (like burgundy red) and NEVER EVER EVER would I own another. They look great for 5 minutes after washing but....

For me at least, the color is an important factor. I simply will not buy a black car again (too much maintenance required). And yes, I would wait until I found one of the colors I like before I would spend money on a car.
I have shopped at 1 dealer for the last 5 years. When I wanted to get rid of my C-4 I was very specific on 3 things. Low miles, 6 spd, and a vert. My color choices were Red, black , or pewter but I may have setteled for another color if the price and miles were right. After finding 4-5 other cars, my salesman called after a few weeks and had a pewter vert with less than 20,000 miles. I took it for a ride and bought it. To me most of the C-5 colors are nice, if it was a c-4 there were several I would have never purchased for inside and outside colors.
I settled for pewter because spiral gray is a rare find. I found my pewter C5 last summer with only 15k on it and had to pounce- the price was too good. I like most colors but didn't want a vette that stands out like yellow and red do (although I think magnetic red metallic looks great).
I've only had one rule regarding color, they are all good as long as they aren't pink. All the Corvette colors are good to me, with a tastefully done car they all look great! Red is a favorite for me though, my Z71 truck is Victory Red, my Z06 is Torch Red, my daily driver 2007 Monte Carlo is white, my daughters 2005 Cobalt SS is white.
Please wish your friend best of luck from me with their C5 purchase/shopping...the thrill of the hunt was welll worth it..tell them to take their time, not only is it a buyers market in most places right now, it is one of the most rewarding/fun things I have shopped for ranking second to searching and purchasing for my house.
Personally, when I did my vette shopping I did it in this order.
1. Convertible - l live in south florida and it is my weekend beach mobile
2. Automatic - one reason only, my wife and I are both Lazy
3. Price/Mileage/Condition etc - self explanatory, be smart
4. Color - Light Pewter Metallic (I already had an older Red vette..)
Keep some open room for mods, doing them yourself is three quarters then fun...enjoy the addiction !!!
After many months of Patiently shopping, I found Exactly what I was looking for within my grrrr Budget...(gotta set one of those, at least in my case).
GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN SHOPPING...asking and researching here is no doubt your BEST resource, most of these forum members are very passionate and knoweledgable about the C5.
