Bobby, three weeks ago, my friend Dominic and I took his Z06 to the Vette Doctors for heads and cam install. One week later we picked the car up. The car was detailed and the tank was full . Carmin road tested the car to make sure we would make it back to Rochester, 6 hours. His tune was excellent and the car did not have a mark on it. Carmin and dennis are great guys who depend on there reputation for work. Good luck finding a better place at a cheaper price on Long Island. I saw your car sitting in their shop. Nice car. We also got before and after dyno reports. Good luck in your decission Fast Ed

Hi Bobby -

I think you are being a big man about this, and you are to be commended.

I have NEVER heard anything negative about Vette Doctors in my 6+ years of frequenting this forum.

I would expect the job to cost less if I were doing the labor, but then I would be the one dealing with the headaches and physical issues surrounding the work.

See if you can video your first start up and test drive away from the shop - I would love to see that.

best regards -

I'm not sure about the pricing on everything mentioned here, but another forum member ,Trynkeepup( Deb), had Vette Doctors work on her car, and it is amazing. She loves her car now, and it is running about 450 HP. Check the Northeast section events for her post about Vette Doctors new beast. There are also some other very good vette specialists in the area, so you might want to do a little comparison shopping.

Done deal guys,

Carmen and Dennis have totally reassured me and I feel very comfortable with them.

The work will be done professionally and they will stand behind it. It should be completed in a couple of weeks.

I cant wait to see it, hear it and drive it.

A full report will be posted when I get it.

To those who offered thoughtful insight, I say thanks. This Forum has more than its fair share of great guys who actually read the posts and can see what the issues are.

I feel allot better and want to thank the Forum for allowing me to work through this.

OK...You got it.

Now about the car...I'm with some of the other posters though.
I don't believe VD is out to rip anyone off and their reputation is second
to none.

I'm thinking that you're a little overwhelmed with the whole situation
and need to take a deep breath and see if you really need (want)
such an upgrade on what is in reality an 8 year old car?

Will you really use it as you think you will? In this day $4 + gas, is
a higher HP engine the solution?

Yeah, it's nice to have all those ponies under the hood and the sound
of headers and a lopy (sp?) cam is a nice high, but won't a simple
engine (LS1) replacement motor give you the same satisfaction you
have now be enough?

Cut you losses and upgrade to another car when the timing is right.

Just thinking, that's all...Good luck with whatever direction you go.

Hi Bobby.

Good luck with the car. I'm sure you'll love it when it's done. Just curious, any idea on how long it will take? I'm thinking of having mine done by them in the future.

Thanks, V

LS6 for $5198

Add labor and taxes and the bill could easily be $8000 installed. Add headers , cam and tune, $10,000 sounds fair.

not every one wants a built motor, many of us are more than happy with the power the GM engineers designed and are able to warrantee.

So? That's the price he pays for a bad decision.

Why? Family is family, but when they steal from you it is still theft. He's making progress on covering his mistake financially, but why should he get a discount? Don't forget, this entire situation was caused by your nephew's actions alone. You sound like a very forgiving guy, nothing wrong with that but I hope people don't take advantage of it too often though.

there is an old saying..."there is never enough money to do the job the first time BUT there is always enough to fix it"

as a business owner all i can say....if its done right 100% of the time no b/s no excuses...its worth paying a few bucks more for the peace of mind...

I will be sending Carmen and Dennis and the guys breakfast this morning.

The job should take about 2 weeks.

For the person who inferred that I am taking my nephews money lightly I would refer him to my original thread and how it has been bothering me to do so and I have wrestled with it.

However, be advised, I was not driving the car when this event occurred and I am NOT paying for it. My sister is on board with this and my brother in law could give a rats azz about him.

Therefore, thats why I am in the position that I am in.

Not a comfortable one by any means. I am hoping nobody gets ripped off and a lesson is learned.

And I want my car back : )

PS No word yet from the shop
Not sure why you wouldn't claim the insurance anyways. It is covered under your comprehensive insurance not collision and it doesn't matter who was operating the car. It will not even count against your accident record. No need to file a false claim and no need to get anybody into trouble.

Good to see you got things worked out If they are doing a clutch, and "a few more things" then the price is starting to make more sense. I don't think most of us were saying anything Bad about Vettedoc.. more we were just wondering about the price, it did not add up from what you had in your original post.
Now since you've got more info as to what that includes seems about right.

Congrats and let us know the end results

Again... a former insurance adjuster, I'm telling you this would be covered under comprehensive. It's not illegal... it's why you have insurance.

Congradulations!!

I can't wait to here how well you like your new engine.

You really do get what you pay for!!

You might be paying a little more, but it will be worth it.
