Check the battery connections - may have just loosened up and need to be tightened again.

The connections were good... but 2 or 3 of the cells were very low.

I think that the battery is about 4 yrs old .

And considering I drive a very limited number of miles its probably dead.

Any ideas for a replacement ? OPTIMA ?? Sure the leakage is eliminated but what about dependability ??
Thanks,

Mike

Default Battery Suggestions

Hi, my personal preference is the AC DELCO sealed unit. Has the best warranty in the business. But whichever battery you get, you need a Battery Maintainer to keep the battery full and get it's complete intended lifespan, with your pattern of driving use. If you get an Optima , you need to make sure that the battery maintainer you use with it has the capacity to handle AGM types. Some say they can, but really cannot keep them at peak charge.
Good Luck

If you get a Red Top then definitely get a tender or you'll be posting about about a dead battery again!

Safe yourself the grief and just get a DieHard and be done with it. With my DieHard Gold (nothing special) it can sit in my garage for 3 weeks and fire right up when I get back into town. I couldn't do that w/ either of the 2 RedTops I've had in the past- 10 days if I was lucky was the longest.

RedTops might work better in a DD but again- once you get past the pretty colors, it's just a sub par battery for weekend drivers.

Looks like its toast. Not sure the Red Top is the best battery for you although the upside is that it takes a lot of effort to damage an AGM battery to the point where it leaks. That said Red Tops don't like being run down which will happen if you dont drive it much

Like you I don't drive much during the week so I got a Yellow Top. Its a deep cycle battery so it copes better with inadvertent discharge. Some say its not the best battery for the job but mine has done well so far.

You would probably be just as well with a standard battery. Either way pay the extra few $$ and get a Battery Tender.

Nothing better for a battery than using it.

That said, I have a yellow top Optima and use a battery tender with it in the winter. So far, so good.
