Default Need help w/ Cam selection

i have a 03 z06 that already has, DUR @ .004" 284* / 290*DUR @ .050" 222* / 228*,LIFT .551 / .551,OVERLAP 57*,LSA 115 and I want it to have a much rougher idle. I want that really lumpy idle!! The cam is really amazing but just not wild enough. I also already have basani headers, xpipe, b&b bullets, and all the titanium, valve springs, etc.

just get something around a 228/230 on a 112 with .575 or so lift. Any bigger and you will have other issues to compromise around.

Not true, its all in the tune. The cam I had in my stock motor was a 23x/24x 114 and drove perfect. It was a Advanced Dyno ADR4 cam.

Here is a clip...

A cam should be matched to the rest of the engine combination. You could put in a mild cam and set the idle real low if you want to shake.

If you don't care and just want a big cam...check out the cams from LG and England Green. The have some custom grinds that will give you what you want.

why does it sound like monza_man 112 has less lope than bullitt4110's. Is it me? Doesnt the lsa what really gives it the rough lope? Also i have had the computer tuned to idle it down and it still is way to mild.

My idle is set to 950 rpms so thats why the lope isnt as noticable. Nick Williams tuned is very well. Drives almost like stock making 435-440rwhp cam only(clutch went on the dyno so we didnt get an accurate run last time)

G5X3 has .600 lift intake and .610 lift exhaust.

I love it when people say it's all in the tune. No it isn't. I have a very similar cam as you and start-up and idle while sitting still is nothing. Also, my car put down 685/715 at the wheels on pump gas with more on tap w/race gas. The cam profile matters and to say it doesn't is totally retarded! yes, a good tune can help but that's all it can do. mechanicals are not changeable. to get a lopey idle the op does not need a big cam, simple as that. why ruin his driving experience and kill the curve with something too big? no reason at all except to say that you have a big cam. dumb.

For anything other than trying to break a world speed record power under the curve is what matters. For a 346 ci I would stick with a 224 duration on the intake and a 114 LSA. Match a 224 cam with the right pair of heads, headers and intake....you have 450+ rwhp where the power curve is excellent, drivability is better and you still get some lope in the idle.

You need to match the hole combo, heads cam etc...

I know this sounds dumb but i am not looking for more horsepower. This thing is freakin' fast. I have always wanted a big lumpy cam. So my goal is to please my ears.

Doesn't sound dumb to me, it is freakin' fast. I finally found a car that at least for now just doesn't need any more hp than what it has. Are there faster cars out there? Of course. Do I care? Not at all. Go for it.

Ok I was wondering about what all is required when putting in a new cam. I'm not doing heads yet....but do you have to change anything on the heads?
