Here's a theory that I've heard about. When you pay the ticket, pay by mail and over pay by a few bucks. They will send you back the overpayment. Tear up (do not cash) the check. The reasoning is that until the book keeping is cleared the case is still open, and no points will be added to your license. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WORKS. It's a theory.

Let's hear some reactions.

So it seems like the V1 and the Escort are the way to go.

I think when the time comes I'll buy both and then return the one after a month, seems like it is what a lot of people do.

Default Update

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for al of your feedback - I really appreciate it. Being that I do market research for a living, the posts of the testing got me - V1 it is. I'm sure it will get good use between the Vette and the BMW .

I'm going to do some research on prices and I'll let you all know what I find.

I paid the ticket and pleaded "not guilty." I'm sure I'll hear about my court date soon. It was a state trouper - not local. As much as I rather put the $170 toward the detector, it's more important to get the points taken away (I have an otherwise clear record).

It was good to hear from so many of you from all over the country . If you ever come to Philly, be sure to look me up and we'll get you a good cheesesteak! I'm headed to Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale in January - anyone going to be there?

Personally I would go with the Escort 9500 as it has the signal light and speed camera locations that the Valentine does not have.

I just like the extra features of the Escort that the Valentine does not have. They're basically about the same in the test reviews except that the Escort has less false alarms.

The problem with the Escort 9500i and its TrueLock feature, advertised to help cut down on falses, is that it's flawed. The Escort 9500i breaks K band down into 8 segments. If you TrueLock a false alert, it will no longer alert to any K band in that particular segment of K band anymore in that location. If a cop happens to be shooting K band in that location and it happens to fall into that segment of K band, you will not get an alert and you could possibly receive a ticket.

Many stores have multiple door openers operating in all segments of K band so you could be locking out alerts for much of the K band. Every segment of K band you lock out will block 12.5% of all K band alerts in that area.

Video of the Escort 9500i not alerting to actual police K band shot in an area where TrueLock has been used to cut down on falses.

Escort Passport 8500 series, very accurate...check flea bay for the best prices. It paid for itself about ten times already since I bought it.

Alex turn it on!!

Brent - do you know if the Escort 8500 has the same issue as the 9500 that you detailed?

We really don't have that problem here in PA because local police can't use radar on the State Police on State roads.

BTW, I would not use the feature to lock out signals anyway. I typically don't speed in residential areas anyway, only on the highway when making long trips.

But I appreciate the info.

It does not, I have a 8500 X50 and a 8500. I really want the speed protection on the signal lights and traps set on the highway.

That's how I got nabbed (timed) however the officer let me go in Ohio.

That model is a heck of a lot less expensive as well. Do you think there's a value to the GPS feature on the 9500?

Valentine 1 Hands down the best unit in the worldI have owned virtually every radar / laser detector made since Mike Valentine invented the first detector THE FUZZ BUSTER back in the 70's (had it in my 68 GTO) There is not a product out there that comes close to the performance or features (live with the arrows ) that the V-1 delivers.Don't leave home without itPS ALL ESCORTS SUCK THEY ARE WORTHLESS
