The GPS feature is what gives you the signal and photo mounted protection.

If you're only drive in this state then you don't really need it, but if you drive in Jersey, NY or MD, I would get it.

Slow down...usually by the time you here the radar go off they already have you! But if you must...make sure you shut it off before the cop gets to your window...its an automatic ticket if he sees or hears the damn thing.

Maybe in Minnesota, but the police officer in Ohio let me go and the radr detector was on and mounted on windshield.

It really just depends on how you treat the officer and the mood he's in that day.

Not by law (they are not illegal in MN), but that won't stop a LEO - they may not give you a break if they notice it....

V1. I own both a V1 and an escort 8500. The Escort is a fine detector but I always take my V1 on road trips. It just protects me the best. I hate having the detector go off then quiet then off then quiet again. I need to have an idea if the threat is in front of me or what. Trucks can have jammers and I like to see the direction change from front to rear when I pass something I thought might have been the source of the signal. Plus if my first contact is behind me, I usually do not worry too much figuring that I'm out in front but if it starts to get any stronger from the rear, I know they're moving up on me and then I slow down. It's not as simple as 'Slow down when the alert goes off' for me. And I'm not talking about big-time speeding just maybe 9 or 10 over.

Now around town, it's different. The escort does a good enough job. It's usually the one I move from vehicle to vehicle but leave the V1 in the Vette, mounted high next to the mirror and wired with invisicord.

No, the Escort 8500 does not have that issue. The TrueLock feature is only available on the Escort 9500i, Escort 9500ix, and the Escort 9500ci.

Don't know if this will work in your state, but it does in California.
Go to TICKET ASSASSIN.COM. This explains how to file a for a Trial by Declaration. Then see if your state has something similar.
Basically, you send the court your Not Guilty plea along with your check for the fine.
They send you a Trial by Declaration form where you explain why you're not guilty. Then the arresting officer has to respond to this in writing.
And that's why it usually works. Cops get paid OT for court appearances, but they don't get a nickel for doing this paperwork and usually don't.
Good luck.
And what's up with a guy who sells aftermarket superchargers telling you to slow down? That's like the bartender saying get sober.

Thanks! I will definitely check that out!

And that was just Chris giving me a hard time...because he can. Check out the thread in the NE about my Madonna tickets. I really took some grief for that!

That what I meant...every officer can use his or her discretion if they are gonna give you a ticket or not...It's just sometimes the radar detector might be enough to through that discretion out the window.

I don't believe you need a computer. It's already programmed. It's basically a GPS system without a screen.

No clue why the blue display costs more.

Let me know how you like it. Once i get the corvette, it will be the V1 or the 9500 i'll be debating on. I might as well get both and return the one that isn't as good.

The blue Lcd's version cost more because blue LED's are more expensive than the red LED's. I'm not really sure how true that is but that's what Escort says.

You need a computer to update the info data base for signal light and photo radar locations.

I had a K-40 Calibre system installed in my Z51. Audio and LED warning. Worth EVERY penny for those of us who like to "stretch our legs" once in awhile. Besides the small blue LED lights positioned tastefully in front of the gauges, you would never know that my Vette was so well guarded in motion.
