I'd say that based on the "Service information installation directory not detected, click OK to exit" message the Data Update (that you run from the DVD to the directory on your PC where you installed the data from DVD) could not locate the GM SPO directory.

If you strip out the items like turning off anti-virus and removing Java the actual install in only three steps:

1. Install the actual software program
2. Install a compressed copy of the data from DVD to local hard drive then Unpack data to the application directory
3. Install Data Update from DVD to local hard drive

I'd double check the directory name you used for the application in step 1 to start with.

Ok, I know how this is going to sound...

Is this software publicly available, other than pirated bit torrent downloads? Just to appease my own curiousity. Looks like you have to be a dealer to get this from GM normally. Great resource.

Thanks, I was just curious. I downloaded it from this post and it works great, really helped me troubleshoot my electrical problem.

Where did you guys buy yours, maybe you could PM the vendor? I would like to be able to get updates as they come out and I don't think they'll cover this copy...

that's so annoying that this is such a complex program. why can't they just publish the entire service manual on a pdf file or something? then you could use full text search, print articles you need, copy and paste graphics to help others etc. that would be so much better than all this stuff.

The DVD is targeted for dealerships that service multiple years and makes of GM vehicles. As new features are added and the next years vehicles released GM just issues a data update.

For me it covers three of the four cars I own. For some narrow minded reason GM didn't include any information of Fords.....

Re-Installed SI-Application (with J2RE).

Installed SI-Update.

Viola, it worked. Veriy specific instructions be damned.

THIS is what I did and it finally worked after ~10 hours. I was ready to throw my laptop into the street. I removed my AVG, and ad-aware, and malware, and disabled my firewall and still did not work. Keep getting the data file not loaded error.

Thanks for posting your solution!!!
