I've been doing the wave since I bought my first Vette in '67, and now that I am back in one I continue. But there's another reason for a non-wave which I don't think has been mentioned here. And that's that you just miss one. More than once I'll be looking at traffic, a house for sale - OK, OK, most often a short skirt - and then realize a Vette was just passing and waving. Nothing intentional, no snub meant, just plain missed it. Which is why I don't get too worked up if somebody does not wave to me. It's a nice gesture but not a religion.
I will have had my '99 coupe for five weeks this coming Sunday. Of all the Corvettes I've passed, so far only ONE person has waved. Was a great feeling getting that first wave. Haven't seen any older 'vettes (probably due to the time of year), pretty much just C5s and C6s. I look at the upcoming car - the drivers are all pretty clueless - either talking on their cell phones, trying to look important, etc. I have a feeling that in my particular area, most of the late model Corvette owners are the mid-life crises types and not real Corvette people. I'll keep looking.
Most everybody waves around here, although I'm sure that doesn't apply to everyone. The cars don't have the exotic taste to them anymore, hence, they have lost their appeal. Corvettes are marketed to the masses now, and have been for quite sometime.
I find it ironic that after 5 weeks of owning a C5, you find yourself a dyed in the wool "Corvette person"...a real aficionado eh?
I wave but anymore I wait for them to wave first, I got tired of being snubbed. As far as C5'ers and C6'ers They are all corvettes to me, I love em all but being a snub to some generations older than yours is kinda childish when many of the older ones could be in better shape than the newer ones.. Hell, mine only has 43k miles on it and only rained on twice and to be snubbed by some daily driver C5 with 100+k miles is funny..
I don't wave to C6's anymore...they are up their own ***.
C5's I'll wave to because they wave back. With GM giving the employee discount on the vette last year, I think a lot of the C6 owners are people that just own the car rather than having the passion for it.
