Put this out there so everyone would think, that is exactly my point. Life changes in a second. The whole accident took maybe 4 seconds and its changed my life forever. I am a great backseat driver now!
Get well soon. A lot of damage and still getting around. How's that angel on the shoulder holding up. I think the only thing I saw not trashed was the oil dip-stick.
Wow, how did it flip at 35? I saw a big BMW flip at at 35 years ago. Glad you are ok too.
Had a drunk guy on a bicycle try to cross the road in the dark (5:30am) with the worse case of fog and low level street lighting there could be. I swerved to the left to avoid hitting him and the front and rear passenger side rims broke. The sudden stopping and swerve launched the car into the air at 35 and landed on the roof. I have pics but can't get them to post. If you wanna see them, let me know and I'll e-mail them to ya. These cars really do seem to hold up well from other crash pics I've seen. They look pretty bad on the outside but that's to be expected.

I have seen way too many pics of totaled Vettes - enough for a lifetime. The one thing that always amazes me is the severity of the damage to the cars, and yet the driver "walked away". Now I realize you didn't actually walk, but you are on the road to recovery. These severe hits are a real testimony to the engineering and safety of these cars.
As the others have said - there will be other Vettes in your future. Plastic, steel and aluminum can be replaced.....flesh and bone cannot. I agree that if you were in a lesser car, the outcome might have been totally different. And, had you not been wearing your seatbelt.....well, I don't even want to consider that.
I wish you a full and speedy recovery. I hope you find a suitable replacement for your beloved car.

Thanks for the kind words. In the end, I am just so happy to be recovering and I may be driving in a month or two. Saturday was 70 degrees, so I misssed the roof out and a little spirited drive for the winter blues.
Always tough to see a fellow vette/vette owner in an accident...but glad to see you are okay. Get better, and get back behind the wheel of another asap! (i AGREE with your daughter) but then again it just goes to show you how careful you have to be, esp. in a fun car like a vette

It looks like they used the jaws of life to get you out. The a-pillars and steering wheel are clearly cut. It also looks like the drivers side impact beam was unbolted from the front mount. How long did it take them to get you out? Do you remember it?
Man, that looks horrible. What a terrible thing to experience.

They did have to cut me out and it took about 30 minutes. I believe the driver door was pushed off the car by me trying to get out. I only remember the car crossing the double yellow line. I was awake but I "woke" up in the ambulance. I do not remember the impact and glad about that. Those guys saved my life and I am grateful for that. Car is just a car...
Wow that looked crazy.. Sorry to hear that. I'm glad you made it and will recover.
That kinda scares me as I just got my C5 2 days ago and got it home last night. So you were going on a straight road at 30MPH then you hit some ice and it just totally spun out and slammed into a pole? Or did I read it incorrectly?
Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery as well and hopefully you'll be in another vette in no time.
I'm glad your still around to tell the story !! I had a scare last year on the Interstate while driving in a lite rain .I swerved to avoid a 10ft. 2x4 and the Vette turned sidways at 80 mph .All i could see was me hitting that concrete barrier.Traction control won out and rightened the car back straight ,needless to say I'm glad no one was within a1/2 a mileinfront or behind me.I backed off the speed until the rain quit. I learned my lesson to reduce my speed when the pavement is wet.
Sorry for your loss, and thankfully your here to talk about it. I totaled mine a couple of months back so I know what your going through, except for the pain of course.
Hang in there. Once your feeling up for it, you'll get another one. On a side note, looking at your pics just sealed the deal for me to invest in a full cage.
