Yugo for distinguishment issue. Really stands out. Power sucks though.
Sorry, never understood the stand out quotient part of owning a particular car. Except................I love it when a friend walks up and says "oh man, a Z!" Most people don't know a coupe from Z. Those in the know.........know. That's the crowd I prefer to "distinguish."
Viper? Everyone I know sputters about them being less than reliable. Eye catcher for sure. Sitting there............not running.
Ferrari? Unless you have an Italian mechanic in that small town, you're in for a world of hurt.
My vote is new Z. Impress the other Vettes.
Then you don't know many people; the only Viper that I know of that is somewhat unreliable makes 1200hp at the wheels, and at that power level, what do you expect.
I know a few viper mechs and for the most part all they do is PM, not much more in the way of repairs than a vette. Come out to N.Dallas sometime, there's a meet every week or so and lots of vipers show up and I never heard one of them talking about their car being in the shop unless is was getting modded. Damn sure isnt in the shop for a ebcm repair or column lock crap.
To the OP, go Viper esp the SRT10's, I looking to get a coupe in a couple years, not to be different or "distinguished(?)". but because Vipers are just awesome cars. I've wanted one since they started making them, then really bad after the SRT10's came out, just couldn't afford it then so I got the Z. Now I can so I'm going Viper hunting in a year or 2.
Compared to other sports cars in its price range it does. And with the exception of the 09 srt10 acr they haven't proved very good Nurburgring track times over the years.
Speaking of nurburgring i have a friend thats a diehard mustang fan and everytime he makes fun of chevys all i have to tell him is one of two things. The new v6 camaro has the same bhp as their mustang gt and where is your nurburgring timeslip?
Having a good friend who used to have a 2007 z06 and now has a 2008 viper (600hp) here are my 2 cents.
The z06 is definitely more of a daily driver than the viper. The z06 has more interior space than the viper. The viper feels cramped. But the seats of the viper are amazing.
Power wise, the viper definitely *feels* faster not sure if it really is.
Handling wise, the viper has LESS body roll but has a much stiffer ride. Also, the steering response on the viper is ridiculously tight (in a good racey way) compared to the vette.
Attention wise, hands down the viper wins. His is snake skin green with a black stripe down the middle. It demands EVERYONE's attention at all times.
OP said he wanted a car with more power, but he probably meant he wanted one that felt stronger and pulled harder than his C5Z06. The GTR doesn't do that. So "Oops!" is right, noob.
MilleniumZ06, I know what you're saying. It's just that the vast major, nay I say 90% of Vipers are not daily driven, garage queens, and very low mileage. When the older models rake up the miles, they run into problems. Just my humble and shut-in opinion.
I have a 2002 Viper (Red with White stripes) with 40-something-thousand-miles which has raked in a lot of miles, is a daily driver and (knock on woods) hasn't had any problems at all. I think just like with most any marques, there will be some that are lemons. However, over all, Vipers (even the older ones) are very reliable and stout, that is if you take care of them. I agree though that most are not daily driven, are garage queens and very low mileage, but that also apply to a lot of Corvettes as well.
x2 if u buy a zr1 it will hold its value alot more than a z06....but if it had to be between those two i would go with the viper hands down... u get a z06 most people wont even know its a z06 they will think its just another vette....and plus the viper is a panty dropper
Very funny. I would go for the viper if you find that there's a mechanic local that could work on it & you think Dodge will maintain its parts organization after it comes out of bankruptcy. The only advantage to the 2006-2009 Z06 would be more parts available even if GM goes belly up; more mechanics likely to be familiar and likely much more reliable.

I'm hoping to get one of those low mile garage queen to replace my low mile garage queen Z06. I wish I had more time and opportunity to drive it but I don't and every time I get in it, it like a new car to me even after 6 yrs; I suspect the Viper will be the same way for me, but with 600hp, I will not have to mod it as much or I will be less inclined to....maybe.
Keep your car and spend 40K on it. You will beat any other exotic or Viper and have 50K left over. Insurance will be cheaper and you can maintain it yourself. If you still want more attention spend 10K on rims and body kit.
You're lookin' to throw $90k on a race car you can only drive 3 or 4 months of the year? Dude, rod your Z up a little, paint a racing stripe on it ...... then go buy the baddest as* snowmobile you can find. You'll probably have enough left over to buy a new boat you can use a couple times a year, too.
