Default Brake Bleeding

I am going to be doing some brake work and want to flush the old brake fluid out. I know there is a thing you put on top of the master cylinder and pressurize the system. Then the bleeders get cracked and the new fluid goes into the system. What is the name of this pump thing and where can I buy one? Does it come with the hose to put on the bleeder (to run fluid into a jar)? I know the bleeding order. Is there any tips, tricks, or things to look out for? Thx in advance!

I purchased my brake bleeder kit from Mid America and it is called Power Bleeder. It's a two piece kit: first the master cylinder attachment with the pump, second the catch bottles that attach to the caliper bleeders. My kit is for my 78 C3, and nearly identical to the C5. It's a good investment.

It's called a Motive and they have a web site. Make sure you get the late model GM cap and a yes they have a bleed bottle available too. Don't follow the Motive directions, keep the Motive tank empty and just monitor your fluid levels in the master reservoir.

Hi There:
I did my buddies c5 he was the pedal operator.I used the manual system.I used the GM p/n 12377967 brake fluid. The vinyl tubing size is 5/16" od x3/8"id.x 20 ft. long for about $3.50 bought at h/depot.By the way all the wheels were removed so access was easy. Speed bleeders are a nice upgrade.

I use a Motive bleeder because I generally never have help when doing mods and maintenance so I look for tools that can make a two-man job a solo experience. This one fits the bill.

+1 on the Motive bleeder - works like a charm and is worth every penny. I've never been a fan of using the car's master cylinder as a "high volume pump" to move lots of fluid through the system and out of the bleeders... too many bad experiences with subsequent piston seal failure within a few days of bleeding the brakes. Maybe the fact that these failures were in British cars had something to do with it

How much pressure does the Motive tool use to push fluid through the lines?...I notice a gauge on front.

I rountinely pump mine to 15-17 psi with no issues whatsoever. Just to be safe I usually de-pressurize the tank and refill the master cylinder reservoir after each corner is bled.

you guys should read this ... http://www.z06vette.com/forums/f8/mo...12/index1.html. scroll down to posts #7 and #10.

I'm no expert but this argument against pressure bleeders makes sense to me. I am just trying to figure out best way to do this myself.
