Hi, I am new to this forum, I have been a member since december but have not made any posts until this one. I am a proud owner of a 02 Mil yellow coupe all stock except for the window valet I installed back in march. Anyway while on the way to Walmart while sitting at the stop light to turn left into walmart I was rear-ended by a lady driving a SUV. I got out of my car and noticed that there was not much damage to my car other some scrathes. I took her info and have decided to call and make a claim against her since I am not sure what else could be wrong. I know going to walmart in a vette is a bad idea but I have never had any problems and I always park away from everyone, plus it is a beautiful day. So would anyone else have filed a claim?
Why should you have to pay to repair damage caused by another negligent driver? Of course I would file a claim against her insurance. Take your car to a quality body shop and have it inspected for hidden damage, get an estimate and turn it in to your insurance company with her information. Let your insurance fight it out with her's, that is what you pay them for.
You pay insurance with the hopes of never having to use it. And if you're a careful driver, you probably never will unless someone else hits you.
You should have made a police report at the scene. Unless you're a repair "expert" you don't know what damage was incurred. Most police departments will not take a state accident report once you've left the scene where it occurred. Some insurance companies won't cover w/o a PD collision report.
But, make a claim and see what happens...

My back is fine, she may have only been going about 5 mph if that. I did file but was just wondering. Does anyone in southern maryland know of a good body shop
You need to make the claim to cover the damage that is why we have insurance.
Did you get a police report too?? May have a hard time getting her insurance to pay (or your insurance company may have a hard time if you go through them) without a police report because all she has to do is deny the accusation.

Keep in mind there's a good chance the parking lot was monitored on video and that there's a recording tucked away somewhere, but not forever. Ask the store manager. Good luck.
There was just a Bonehead here who watched some chick drive over the front of his car, that dumb as# didnt call the cops or make her pay, what a looser.
Cops would have been called and a claim filed against their insurance!
Nothing wrong with driving to Walmart, I do it with no issues.
Ya, having a heart is a really stupid thing.
He clearly knew the extent of the damage and had no problem fixing it himself. It's not a bonehead thing to do at all, it's very kind of him.

This is SOLID GOOD INFORMATION ! There could be any number of things that were damaged, and only a really good shop with a lot of Corvetter experience will have an idea of what to do. You didn't do anything wrong, there's no reason you should not be put back to exact condition. I had a small accident two years ago in my 2003, But I sent it to a expert corvette repair and restoration shop who fixed it so well I dare anyone to find so much a single clue. Good Luck.

Reason: spelling
To those who say the police should have been called out to the accident, typically police will not show up to a minor accident unless someone is injured (or killed, but that almost never happens in a minor fender bender). What's SUPPOSED to happen is the parties are to exchange information and then contact the insurance company of the party at fault. In the case of a rear-ender (like this one), it's pretty clear who's at fault. An important thing to do, besides exchanging info, is to take pictures of the accident scene, even if it's just with a cell phone, so visual proof of the accident can be presented to the insurance company. I personally carry a compact digital camera with me everywhere I go, just in case of something like this, or if I see something interesting I want a pic of.
