That's cool! I never knew that before. I thought the first projectors used in headlamps were by BMW, then by Honda (Their Acura Integra gen 2).

But those lights are halogen, right? They look like the stock halogen projectors that are on some cars now.

I vote for shrouds like these. The problem with clear covers is condensation.......I would prefer the projectors as they are.....raw with shrouds.

But all OEM projectors have clear covers. Only time condensation can occur is when it leaks, right?

No, this kit on the black car above (now that I found all the links I had saved) was from a German guy that wanted like 1500 for the kit. Jhonathan found a kit with the same hardware for like 500 or a little more, that came with a really crappy shroud... I know he's working on a new shroud that will be fit for the C5 world I believe, but correct me if I'm wrong. That way he can offer the kit at a reasonable price...

Well headlights do get damaged

I've yet to see a BMW with their xenon headlights leak.

Right. I've had 5 cars with covered projection lights (3 of which were Nissan/Infiniti) and we've NEVER seen leaks. My 19 year old 300zx has covered projection lights and there hasn't been any leaks in them yet.

These will not be made by BMW
Many OEM headlights develop fog and condensation over time without being hit or damaged. They also are prone to sun damage, but the C5 wouldn't have that issue since the lights retract.

Condensation is directly related to humidity, air temp and atmospheric pressure.
When the air temperature rises the volume of air expands with the increase and the abillity of the (trapped) air to hold water vapor in suspension decreases.
This happens in nature and Meteorologists have very technical terms for it, like clouds and rain. jrprich/Jim you probably know this phenom well up there in Oregon. (Just teasing you bradda, Hillsboro's very nice... )

Sorry. Anyway, I see the key as venting the air, or allowing the heat/moisture laden air to escape to reduce pressure and keep the moisture in suspension. Problematic considering the heat generated by our 'proposed' mods.
I would think that as long as we aren't sealing the clear lens' completely and allowing air circulation, condensation wouldn't be a problem. (...unless I've missed something, which could be the case. )

How about a set of body colored shrouds covered by a clear lens??
Seems to me the C6's look pretty good like that. That would be my vote...

...if I get one?

Aloha

Well I was just using BMW as an example since they use projector bulbs too... you don't seriously think their clear cover is actually like a huge quality improvement over say, a Toyota's clear cover, right?

What I'm saying is, I have yet to see a huge problem regarding condensation. How many vehicles do you see or know someone have that have these issues often?

And as you said, C5's lights retract, so that makes it even less chance.

Man tons of replies since I last checked

That's pretty much correct. The first guy Birger did want a lot more, but his kit is a better quality. After polling C5 owners and the way spending is that system is not going to work here.

We decided to try the cheaper kit to see what it's like. We found out it's not what we want so we're going to use the same concept with our own design. We will also be buying our own projectors and hardware to keep costs down.

I talked to radioflyer on another thread, and he mentioned 60mm Hella's. I have never heard of 50mm ones though. I know there are 60mm and 90mm. How would you tell 10mm from the photo?
