OK so I'm a big believer that my vette is a car and I drive it as much as possible. Rain or shine.
So last week I am doing my usual thing by hand washing the car and as I normally do a thorogh job on all my cars, I wipe out the door sills and I pop the hatch. The car was sitting outside for a while before I bought it so there is dirt in various cracks and corners so I also pop the hood to get at the nooks and crannies.
Now while I marvel at the cleanliness of the engine compartments on many the car pictures here, I am generally not that ****. So after I cleaned the sills out I was surprised to find myself cleaning the valve covers and doing a general cleaning of the area.
When I start removing the wheels to clean the inside of the rims, I beleive my wife will be calling for an intervention.

Welcome. My name is Allen and I'm a "Vetteaholic".
I have come to realize that cleaning and detailing the Corvette is almost as fun as driving it.
I haven't took my wheels off yet but will probably dothat next week when I have a few days off. My wife thinks I amalready obsessed with this car and she is totally CORRECT.......
Corvette fever gets in your blood. All I can say is that I'm dayum sick. 45 degrees in the wintertime and crappy weather and I'll be in the garage screwing around with my vette.

And your point?
Yes it's just a car, and no it won't melt if it gets wet. It runs just fine dirty and unpolished.
You would be amazed at the condition of some of the cars that I see at the shop.....both good and bad.
Most everyone here totally understands the obsession - that's what separates the enthusiasts from everyone else....and generally everyone here is an enthusiast. After six years of obsession (today!) my wife understands.

Mine has a top notch detail job on it and tommorow Im going to drive it 1000 miles . Ohio to florida trip. Some tell me Im nuts to drive a 02 z with 9000 miles on it and head/cam/long tube headers that far and risk getting a rock chip, boo hoo on that. Im going to have some fun in the sun. All Im doing is mapping out 2 good days of weather to make the to and from trip. Im sure it will be dirty when I arive to my destination.
You're in good company brutha! We are ALL fanatical about our C5's. Everytime my car is up on jackstands I pull outthe Mothers polish and shine up everything that's metal....and I don't even show my car...it barely comes out of the garage..it's a sickness for which I'm glad there is no cure!

Just drove my 2003 with only 5,400 miles from Bangor, Maine to Ocala, Florida - appx 1,400 miles. Great trip - no rain or dings - broke in the new MGW shifter and the three of us got to bond. (wife, myself and car) Was happy that when we arrived in Ocala all my cleaning supplies had arrived so it was time to wash and apply makeup, she looking great again. Now that she is in warm weather going to be doing a few mods - STS Turbo, Insulating entire car, new clutch, tunnel plate, new modified bezel which will handle Turbo gages, new stero system and GPS, some minor interior mods, thanks to Dennis and Chris. The possibility list - new brake system - 18" CCW 16a's and tires all around. Anyone have any additional suggestions?

Reason: clarification
Yeah...I have one...If you are going with a Turbo kit, I would suggest you incorporate some rear fender flares runing a 12.5 to 13" rear wheel. You're gonna need as much meat in the rearend as possible to keep any traction.
