No "A pillar airbag" in a C5. C5s only have steering wheel and right-side dashboard airbags. No Corvette has an A pillar airbag, including the C6. The C6s do have an airbag in the outboard seat bolster in addition to the steering wheel/dash like for the C5s.
Truth is, even experienced drivers crash from time to time. With high speeds, comes vehicle dynamics and pure physics which become impossible to overcome.
Just remember, Dale Ernhardt was an experienced driver.
Wow, my wife told me about this as I got home tonight. What an act of irresponsability. You cant be doing that on a public street with 4 little ones at home. C'mon! What a shame. Too bad for those little kids. RIP.
Just to clarify, the woman driving the car was the owner, not a salesperson. The car was supercharged and she was probably just trying to show off for the possible male buyer sitting next to her. That definitely looked like the wrong kind of road to be speeding on. I'm sorry for her kids, what an absolutely avoidable waste of life. RIP
The C5 was her husbands car. Amy Thomas, formerly Amy Hunt, had worked for West Coast Corvettes for some time. She was always a pleasure to deal with. She left WCC after she had her 4th child about 7 months ago. She was so happy with her new husband and baby. What a shame. I will truly miss her.

Definitely a tragedy. It would be nice to hear the passenger's take on what went wrong - if she was really pushing it for some reason, mechanical failure, etc. He is probably in the best position to recount what actually happened.
