There was talk on their Facebook page about a new seat coming out for the corvette specifically.

I emailed them. They said they were working on a non-reclining version of the A4 that would not require switching DS seat to PS.

Does it really matter if you need to switch them? IMO no.... They are both proportionate seats you just have the reclining handle on the tunnel side. I would rather do that than have fixed seats any day of the week. Just my $.02.

That's a bit of bummer news as they just came out with some new seat series.
I was hoping for something like their Sportline RRB but with a leather option and a raised adjustment lever.

Having the reclining mechanism on the tunnel side seems like a PITA to me. I mounted mine like they're supposed to be....on the outside.

I milled my mounts just enough to have the bracket for the seat belt slide up snugly along side the seat. Only took about the equivalent of two screw widths. It's still a tight fit but, I can reach the lever quite easily. Corbeau should be ashamed of themselves for not doing this themselves on a bracket that is supposed to be C5 specific.

Rick:

VERY nicely done ! Thats why I love this forum ! Great ideas out there like this one !
I may get a wild hair soon and do mine too...

So you drilled 4x new holes in the seat frame ?
About 3/4" apart from the old original holes ?

Thanks !

Rick:

I got bored today so I followed in your foot steps....
Thanks for the tips !

I have yet to drive it to see if I like the seat 1.5" closer to the center tunnel.

It feels fine just sitting in it though.

I'll be interested to hear if the seat feels offset once you drive the car.

Well... I went for a 15 min cruise around.

I felt closer to the center tunnel a little. (not a bad thing)
I felt a little to the right of the center line of the steering wheel. (not a bad thing)

I felt the passenger seat (now in the drivers seat location) was more stiff since its only been sat in about 5 times. (not a bad thing).

I really did not find it a big deal that the seat was shifted 1.5" closer to the center tunnel at all.
I'm going to keep it like this and see how I like it long term.
I think I will like it and likely keep it this way. (time will tell though).

The only issue I see is that folks that lay their seat WAY back will have an issue with this. Behind the seat where the center tunnel flares out it WILL impede the seat from laying all the way back.

Overall I like it.

The good news is that I can swap seats side to side anytime I want just like I rotate my tires.
Maybe this way I can get equal wear on both seats so they will last longer before I will need to re-cover them.

Its also something that you can try, and if you don't like it, then go back to the original way you had the seats. Its something you can un-do easily.

For me, in my car (an '01), with my brackets from about '06/7 or so (I don't remember exactly when I got my seats) I can sit in my seat and draw an imaginary line from the outer edges of my steering wheel down to my bottom seat cushion and the seat is centered nearly perfectly (you would need a laser pointer to determine if it's offset at all). If I were to mount them on opposite sides, my seats would be offset somewhat.

I'm only 5'10". I have my seat one notch back from all the way forward. I can slide back or tilt back quite a ways before I come close to where the console/waterfall thingy flares out. Might be an issue for some of you really tall guys...?

Switching them back and forth would be nice to keep wear down. My seats are microsuede. The shoulder belt has rubbed the fiber smooth now and made a tiny hole in the top of my seat. I have those Velcro shoulder pads on the belt, I don't know if they helped slow it down or not, still happened. I just ordered a new seat cover from Corbeau. I'm adding lumbar support to it as well. I think it will be nice on longer drives, there were a few times I wished I'd had it. I can always keep it deflated if I don't like it.

Merry Christmas all,
-Rick

I took some measurements just now.
I used the center-line going down the center of the steering wheel are a reference.
I then measured the CENTER of the middle seat cushion.

I found that the seat is now pushed about 1 inch to the right of center-line.

That tells me that originally the seat was about 0.5 inches pushed to the left of center-line.

Not much of a difference really.

I guess it will depend on what way you like your seat off center...

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE !

Toque, thanks for the feedback on moving the seat over. I may have to do that.

This is great news. I am about to install my A4's along with a total interior leather wrap done by Dennis at Double D. I had been considering a custom sill piece and changing the seat belt system to move the retractor and get the clearance to mount the seats with the recliner lever on the correct side, but this will definately be less expensive. Thanks Rick and Mark!

Well....

I was out for an hour + cruise with the guys tonight.

After some driving I realized I don't think I like the offset seat.
It just did not feel right. Hard to explain.
I also did not like how the back of the seat rubbed against the center console, and also my right leg was rubbing against the center console.

I swapped them back tonight to the original position.

Don't let me deter anyone from trying this though.
Just because I did not like it, does not mean others will feel the same.

That is excellent feedback and to be honest it is what I expected.

Thanks for the feed back....looks like I am back to changing the seat belts and sill cover. Or just do the reverse mounting to clear the retractors.
