No one knows what is truly "BEST".Here's the stuff I use in my 02Z.

Engine:Penn Ultra 5-30 ( upgraded from Penn Plat)
Filter:Wix 51042
Trans:Amsoil ATD
Diff:Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90

Others make good stuff too.Lot's of good choices.

Mobil 1 does have some different products under different formulation (like extended mileage), but the original is still available on the shelf.

Keep an eye on specials from Advanced Auto Parts, they've been doing these 5 qts Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter for around $26. Of course for us LS1 owners we have to buy an extra 2 qts but still it is a great deal.

For those who prefer to use other products like Quaker State or something else, they have deals on those offerings too.

It cost me a third of what I've been paying to do my oil change last time thanks to Advanced Auto Parts.

Mobil 1 5W 30 and an AC/Delco PF-46. I like to keep it simple. These cars are good for over 200,000 miles without trying to get fancy with fluids and whiz-bang filters.

I agree 100% MOBIL1 says 5,000 miles change intervels max. Amsoil says 25,000 change intervels. I personaly change my Amsoil at 15,000 miles but I spank my car from time to time. Mobil1 pays GM for the right to avertise as the only oil for corvettes. Camaros and Firebirds Have same LS1 and GM does not spec. mobil1. Makes ya think. I do know that a well known Nascar team that has Mobil1 as a sponser uses Amsiol in their cars. I have seen with my own eyes!!![ QUOTE=Navy Blue 210;1573625557]AMSOIL

I use Mobil-1 5W/30, but that's what it came with from the factory in Bowling Green, and I've never had any lubrication/oil problems since I bought the car in 2003. I know that are equal or better oils I assume, ie: Royal purple, Amsoil, ect. I don't know about the scotish guy running around slapping people with a dipstick ? but so long it says that what's in the quart bottle meets GM4718M then your good to go. Please, no verbal fights.

I use Mobil products in all my vehicles, but everybody has likes and dislikes. If my memory serves me, Amsoil, and Mobil discovered or invented the whole 'synthetic oils about the same time.

Nowhere on the cap does it actually say "Mobil 1 only". It only says that Mobil 1 is the factory fill. That doesn't make it the best oil, nor does it mean that's the only oil you can use.

I changed to Valvoline synpower because it has better results in the standard wear test than Mobil 1. Castrol EDGE also performed better on the wear test. (8 times less wear.)

AMSOIL The 1st API certified Synthetic Oil for Automobiles was created and available more than 2 years before mobil one. Jet aircraft engines
were the primary use for synthetic oil prior to this.

I run Mobil 1, I used it exclusively in my supercharged 2000 Mustang GT that ran 9-10# of boost on the STOCK longblock for ~46,000 miles. (I didn't install the blower on until the car had 78,000 miles)

When I sold the car last month with 124,000 miles, it ran like new and still didn't smoke and the valve covers were clean underneath.

Here it comes again, the oil war, my .02 cents, use any synthetics oil that is SAE approved for your vehicle. Here is the important part, change it every 3 to 5000 miles, sooner if driven hard or in dirty environments. Use a good name brand filter or (a take-a-part filter that some sell) and your LS1 motor will love you. PS: Use an "Oil Catch Can" in the PCV system to eliminate oil in your intake, then your LS1 motor will not only love you, but last longer.... Enjoy the ride....
