Why gamble with some lesser brand, especially one marketed with a pyramid scheme?
Now you've done it. You've just started another oil debate. You will get a lot of opinions on which oil is best but all you need to remember is; no matter what anyone says to use, just stick with any 5W30 synthetic oil that meets the GM4718M specification. I, myself have used both Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum. Excellent oils at a decent price.
It is relatively inexpensive and it is easy to get at Wal Mart in 5 quart jugs.
I use the exact same oil in m 2004 V8 Tundra and my wife's 2006 Rav4 V6, makes things really easy. It is just oil and not blood I'm putting in my body, and engines are just metal and some fancy rubber seals.
I have used Mobile 1--5w30,,,but I now usually use what ever brand name 5w30 FULL SYNTHETIC that I get a good deal on. I am also partial to WIX filters(also sold as NAPA Gold). OK,,,wheres that little azzhat with that dip stick??? Gonna punch his lights out if he comes near me with it!!
Any fully synthetic oil that meets the GM4718M spec and is by a brand you trust.
I currently use QuakerState HorsePower..
I started with Mobil1
switched to Pennzoil Platinum and now run The QS.
Not all synthetics are created equal "Jimmy"! With that said the base stock for the different engine oil blends make the difference. Group 4 with Poly-Alpha-Olefin ( PAO) like Mobil 1. Group V Esters, polyethers, polyalkalyene-glycol (PAG) synthetics like Red Line full synthetic engine oils. Each has pros and cons but are better than the Group 3 highly refined mineral or paraffin based stock with more stable and higher oxidation tolerances.
You car came with Mobil 1 ( Mobil 1 changed its formula slightly in 2005) Synthetic. I use Red Line full synthetic 10W40 oil. I use Red Line products for almost all my lubricant needs ( I'm also biased for several non performance reasons). But when was the last time you heard of an engine failure directed at a lubricant failure?
