I'm wrestling with a body shop trying to get my car repaired after it was rear ended a couple of months ago. They finally got everything back together, but the paint doesn't quite match on the bumper cover. It's a very similar problem to the description in this post (looks ok outside, but not under the florescent lights in the garage),
Here's a pic of my car looking down at the bumper cover/trunk lid.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this? The shop is at a bit of a loss. They also painted the RHS fender and it looks much closer, so it must have something to do with the different materials (plastic bumper cover versus SMF fender).
I had a new after market hood done at the local stealership (very good and straight up body guys) MY is in their opinion the hardest by heaps color to match.
the suns effects, washings, waxes/polishes, on your other body panels make it "appear" that the new paint is the issue ....
It's supposed to be a tri colored paint job and that's why it's a surcharge color.
Did you ask if they ever worked with this color before??
Good Luck
I'm talking to them now about the paint they used. Haven't gotten a clear answer yet. But no, they have not worked with Mill. Yellow before unfortunately.
The paint the shop did I think is for the C6 yellow.
I'll definitely have them check that, although they painted the RHS fender also which matches the car much better (maybe a very slight difference if you look at it in just the right light). I honestly think it's more likely an issue with painting the plastic bumper cover vs. SMC.

The front and the rear bumpers will assume a different shade from the rest of the car due to the mis-match of composite and plastic panels. You will also see a difference in shade on your side view mirrors as well as the halo (if you have one). All of these parts generate different shades of the same color ..even if painted at the same time. paint/clear has to lightened or darkened to achieve a 100% match on those pieces. do a search for one of my threads..i think its called (transformation of lance joker) and you will see what we did to match the MY paint perfectly.
MY is the biggest PIA to match but it can be done if done correctly.
Good luck brudder

Yea, that's likely the problem. I found this thread, but don't see any info on painting the parts. Lots of good pics though.

Well, this could be correct. I found another interesting mis-match tonight. This is a pic of the door jam where the rear fender bolts in (warning, large pic),
when a ricer rear ended my MY I had the dealers body shop fix and paint it and I must say I never saw any mismatch color....they did a great job so ....it can be done.
Hey guys, I've found another problem that's a bit of a mystery.
The car has more wind noise than before (about 60 mph or so). It's not the window seals. I've sat on both sides and had a friend do the same. Both of us felt the sound was coming from the area between the side window and rear window. I tried taping up all of the seams along the fenders and trunk lid, but that made no difference at all.
It really sounds like wind buffeting more than an actual interior leak. It starts to become audible at about 60mph (no, not just at 140! ).
Take it to a professional shop. I was rear ended and the shop resprayed my bumper and upon the first try, can't notice a difference at all. The bodyshop I went to also paints Porsche, Ferrari, Vipers and collectible cars. So of course they knew what they were doing. When I went in to pickup the car, there was a Lamborghini Miura getting prepped. Don't go to Maaco expecting showroom quality.
Just had the ACI rear wing painted and installed and its not a total perfect match but is close enough.
Lighter bright colors are always harder to match.

Well, I took it to one of the better shops here in town, but I'm in Wichita Kansas, so options are limited. I could probably count the number of Lamborghini's here in town on my fingers.
It's going back in Monday to be re-repainted along with trying to find the wind noise issue.
Be sure that they know that your MY is a tri stage color. Also ask what brand of paint they are using. It shouldn't make a difference but I'm always curious.
You may end up taking it somewhere else like Alex stated. Sometimes a shop really can't fix it and it has to be taken somewhere else.

I told them and emailed them the threads I found on this forum discussing it. I suspect that is the problem though. I'll ask about the paint brand.
I'm not sure how the insurance would work if I insisted on going to another shop. I'm certainly not willing to spend any of my own money since I was not at fault.
Hey, as long as their willling, and don't charge you extra, give them a chance to make things right. Why couldn't they do a trial spray on something else, before spraying your car. That way they could tell if they have a match. For example some pieces that they took off your car from the accident?
